The Czech Republic kept its perfect record in the Fed Cup finals by capturing the trophy for the sixth time in eight years by defeating defending champion United States.
Katerina Siniakova saved two match points before defeating Sofia Kenin 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 in the first reverse singles on Sunday to give the Czechs an insurmountable 3-0 lead over defending champion United States in the best-of-five final. The remaining two matches were not played.

PRAGUE (AP) — Barbora Strycova and Katerina Siniakova won their singles for the Czech Republic to take a commanding 2-0 over the defending champion United States in the Fed Cup final on Saturday.
Strycova rallied from a set down to defeat Sofia Kenin 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-4.
Siniakova stretched the advantage by dispatching Alison Riske 6-3, 7-6 (2) to the delight of more than 14,000 fans at Prague's O2 Arena.
Pliskova out of Fed Cup final, Krejcikova in for Czechs
PRAGUE (AP) — World No. 8 Karolina Pliskova has been ruled out of the Czech Republic team in the Fed Cup final against the defending champion United States next weekend due to calf muscle and wrist injuries.
The Czech team says Pliskova was injured last week during the WTA Finals in Singapore, where she lost to Sloane Stephens of the United States in the semifinals.

NADAL WINS AGAIN
Rafael Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to win a record-extending 11th title at the French Open. Nadal became the second player in tennis history to win 11 singles titles at any Grand Slam tournament after Margaret Court, who claimed 11 Australian Open titles. Nadal will remain at the top of the ATP rankings ahead of Roger Federer. Nadal and Federer have won the past six Grand Slam tournaments between them.
NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Kirsten Flipkens ended Kiki Bertens' bid for a third straight Nuremberg Cup title on Friday with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (3) win in the quarterfinals.
The Belgian player rallied after losing the opening set to end Bertens' 13-match winning run after two hours and 34 minutes. Flipkens advances to a semifinal against Alison Riske of the United States. It will be Flipkens' second career clay-court semifinal.
NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Two-time champion Kiki Bertens began her Nuremberg Cup defense by beating Serbian qualifier Dejana Radanovic 6-1, 6-1 on Monday.
Second-seeded Julia Goerges saved a match point but was upset by Kristyna Pliskova 6-2, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (5) in 2 ½ hours.

PRAGUE (AP) — Top-seeded Karolina Pliskova withdrew from her home Prague Open because of a right thigh injury on Monday.
Pliskova won the Stuttgart Open on Sunday for her 10th-career WTA title, and the previous week helped the Czech Republic beat Germany in Stuttgart in the Fed Cup semifinals.
Pliskova was due to face her sister Krystina in the first round. Her spot in the draw was taken by Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, and lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch of Germany came into the main draw.
STUTTGART, Germany (AP) — Petra Kvitova defeated Angelique Kerber 6-2, 6-2 in under an hour to send the Czech Republic to the Fed Cup final with what proved to be a 4-1 win over Germany on Sunday.
After Kvitova won the deciding rubber to make it 3-1, Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Strycova also won the doubles match that they were leading 7-5 when Julia Goerges and Anna-Lena Groenefeld retired after 37 minutes.
Wozniacki falls to Kasatkina in St. Petersburg quarters
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki's lost to Daria Kasatkina 7-6 (2), 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy on Friday.
Kasatkina came back from a break down to win the first set in a tiebreaker before speeding to a 3-0 lead over the top-ranked Wozniacki in the second set.
2nd-seeded Mertens advances to Hobart quarterfinals
HOBART, Australia (AP) — Defending champion Elise Mertens beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday to advance the Hobart International quarterfinals.
Mertens came from qualifying and No. 127 in the world in the 2017 Hobart event to win the title. She'll next meet last year's runner-up Monica Niculescu or American Varvara Lepchenko for a semifinal berth.
Mertens is the only seeded player left in her half of the draw and one of just three remaining in the tournament.
Siniakova beats Sharapova to reach Shenzhen Open final
SHENZHEN, China (AP) — Defending champion Katerina Siniakova defeated Maria Sharapova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on Friday in her first meeting with the five-time major winner to reach the final of the Shenzhen Open.
The sixth-seeded Siniakova hit 10 aces to set up a final on Saturday with top-ranked Simona Halep, who beat fourth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu 6-1, 6-4.
Hingis earns 25th Grand Slam title with women’s doubles win
NEW YORK (AP) — Martina Hingis swept her doubles events at the U.S. Open.
Don't look for her to try singles again.
"No thanks," said Hingis, who will be 37 on Sept. 30. "I'm doing just fine with the mixed and the doubles."
Hingis won her 25th Grand Slam title and second in two days, teaming with Chan Yung-Jan of Taiwan to beat Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday in the women's doubles final.
Lucic-Baroni, Cornet move to 2nd round of Connecticut Open
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Mirjana Lucic-Baroni of Croatia and Alize Cornet of France won first-round matches Sunday at the Connecticut Open.
Cornet beat Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-0, 6-0, and Lucic-Baroni overcame 11 double faults and held off Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Siniakova beats Wozniacki to take Swedish Open title
BASTAD, Sweden (AP) — Caroline Wozniacki struggled with injury Sunday as she lost the Swedish Open final to Katerina Siniakova.
The 56th-ranked Siniakova, who had injury problems of her own, took advantage of Wozniacki's inconsistent serving to win 6-3, 6-4 for her second career title.
"I couldn't imagine a better week. I'm so happy that I won," Siniakova said. "I was just enjoying the game."
PRAGUE (AP) — Defending champion Lucie Safarova withdrew from the Prague Open on Wednesday ahead of her second-round match against Kristyna Pliskova because of illness.
Organizers said she was ill before the tournament and her condition worsened after her 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Kristina Kucova on Tuesday.
In the quarterfinals, Pliskova will face 144th-ranked Beatriz Haddad Maia. The Brazilian qualifier beat fourth-seeded Sam Stosur 6-3, 6-2.
