PERTH, Australia (AP) — Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter beat Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari 4-3, 3-4, 4-3, including 5-4 in a tiebreaker in the deciding mixed doubles set in the Fast4 format, to give Britain a 2-1 win over Greece in the opening match of the eight-team Hopman Cup tennis tournament on Saturday.
Norrie upset No. 15-ranked Tsitsipas 7-6 (8), 6-4 to give Britain the lead before Sakkari beat Boulter 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in women's singles to level the tie.
TIANJIN, China (AP) — Karolina Pliskova and Timea Bacsinszky both won Friday at the Tianjin Open, and they will next face each other in the semifinals.
The top-seeded Pliskova, who is still hoping to qualify for a third straight WTA Finals in Singapore, beat Katie Boulter 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 despite being down a break in the third set.
Bacsinszky, who had been sidelined for six months with a right leg injury, upset fourth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5).
NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — Johanna Konta reached her first semifinals since Wimbledon last year after beating Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia 6-4, 6-2 at the Nottingham Open on Friday.
Konta has hit form on grass after a poor season to date, and next faces Donna Vekic of Croatia, who beat her in the final 12 months ago. Vekic beat Mona Barthel of Germany 7-5, 6-1.
Jakupovic earned early breaks in each set but Konta did not panic and was quickly back on even terms.
