FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England waived Kenny Britt on Wednesday, ending the wide receiver's underwhelming stay with the Patriots.
Despite losing Danny Amendola in free agency and knowing Julian Edelman will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season, the Patriots let go of the 29-year-old Britt, who was with his fourth team. New England also had released Jordan Matthews and Malcolm Mitchell from its receiving corps.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady has thrown touchdown passes to many receivers during his 18 NFL seasons. He'll likely be adding new names to the list.
The Patriots receiving corps took a hit this offseason: the trade of Brandin Cooks to the Rams; the free-agency departure of Danny Amendola to Miami; and Julian Edelman's suspension for the first four games for a drug-policy violation.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Defensive tackle Alan Branch is among the inactives for the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots have beefed up Tom Brady's receiving corps for this week's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, adding veteran Kenny Britt.
They'll also get tight end Rob Gronkowski back after his one-game suspension. Also Wednesday, tackle Marcus Cannon was placed on injured reserve.
A second-team AP All-Pro last season, Cannon played in seven of the first eight games but missed the last five with an ankle injury.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The quarterback carousel for the Browns has become a carnival.
One week after sitting turnover-prone rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer for an entire game, Cleveland coach Hue Jackson benched him in the second half of a 12-9 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The sudden, surprising move seemed to scream desperation from Jackson, who dropped to 1-22 in two seasons and could be in jeopardy of not finishing 2017.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kenny Britt's disappointing start with the Browns worsened.
Britt and fellow wide receiver Corey Coleman were sent back to Cleveland last week for missing curfew while the team was in Houston to play the Texans, a person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press on Saturday.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Kenny Britt was signed by the Browns to be a playmaker and a leader for their young wide receivers.
One game into the regular season, his starting spot is in jeopardy.
Britt dropped an on-target, downfield throw from DeShone Kizer in the fourth quarter Sunday, stalling a critical drive in Cleveland's 21-18 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns found a "franchise quarterback," just maybe not their own.
And whoever winds up behind center in Cleveland will be well protected.
With an eye on making another move at quarterback, Cleveland acquired veteran Brock Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick on Thursday in a stunning trade with the Houston Texans, who were looking for a partner to help them get rid of the QB's $16 million guaranteed contract.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Rams coach Jeff Fisher was in a playful mood Monday, joking about the worst scoring offense in the NFL.
"But if you look at the big picture, we're 2-1 when we haven't scored a touchdown," he said. "So I'm not sure why you guys are making such a big deal about not scoring touchdowns."
While ending a four-game losing streak with a 9-6 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, Fisher saw signs of progress from the offense, even if it didn't find the end zone.
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions were determined to keep Todd Gurley grounded.
Early on, it didn't look like they would be successful because Gurley ran for 15 yards on the Los Angeles Rams' first snap. After that, though, the running back had just 43 yards rushing on 13 carries, a key factor in Detroit's 31-28 win over Los Angeles on Sunday.
He lost a yard on a play that proved to be pivotal.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid once again kneeled during the national anthem before the San Francisco 49ers' season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
No other Niners players joined in the protest Monday night, although Rams defensive lineman Robert Quinn and receiver Kenny Britt held fists up during the anthem.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Never mind Jared Goff's status as the first overall pick in the draft for Los Angeles.
For now, with a lot left to learn, he's the third-stringer.
Goff's first start of the preseason for the Rams featured two turnovers and one touchdown, as the Minnesota reserve running backs led a 27-25 victory by the Vikings on Thursday night.
