Cleveland State upsets Oakland 44-43
DETROIT (AP) — Kenny Carpenter scored 16 points, Anthony Wright added 12 and No. 8 seed Cleveland State upset No. 4 seed Oakland 44-43 in the Horizon League Tournament semifinals on Monday night.
Tyree Appleby scored on a short baseline jumper with 32 seconds left to give the Vikings (12-22) the lead.
Cleveland State then got a stop with 14.5 seconds left, Appleby missed the front end of a 1-and-1, and the Vikings got another stop as time expired to secure the win.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Bobby Word sank seven 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, Stefan Kenic chipped in 17 points, including a 3-pointer to force a second overtime period, and Cleveland State slipped past Youngstown State for 99-94 win in double OT on Saturday night.
Oakland wins 82-66 for Kampe’s 600 victory
CLEVELAND (AP) — Jalen Hayes scored 24 points and Oakland beat Cleveland State 82-66 on Friday night to give coach Greg Kampe his 600th career victory.
Kampe, in his 34th season at Oakland, became the 15th active coach to reach 600 Division-I victories.
Cleveland St holds off Detroit 75-72 on Kenic’s career night
CLEVELAND (AP) — Stefan Kenic scored a career-high 19 points, Anthony Wright added 15 with 12 rebounds, and Cleveland State held off Detroit Mercy 75-72 on Wednesday night.
Bobby Word scored 15 points and Kenny Carpenter added 11 for the Vikings (8-20, 5-10 Horizon League), who made 11 3-pointers and shot 49 percent from the field.
Cleveland State holds off UIC late to post 86-78 upset win
CHICAGO (AP) — Tyree Appleby and Stefan Kenic converted 7 of 8 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes and Chicago State held on to upset Illinois-Chicago, 86-78 in a Horizon League game Saturday night.
The loss pushed the Flames two games back of conference-leader Northern Kentucky. Wright State fell out of a first-place tie and is in second place, a game ahead of UIC.
Henderson, IUPUI break 5-game skid, edge Cleveland St 78-73
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — T.J. Henderson only missed twice all night, scoring 19 points as IUPUI halted a five-game slide by holding off Cleveland State 78-73 Thursday night.
Henderson was 5 of 7 from the field and made all nine of his free throws, including a final pair with eight seconds remaining as the Jaguars held on. Cleveland State had steadily whittled a 30-point IUPUI lead down to 73-71 with 25 seconds left to play.
N. Kentucky controls Cleveland St. with 11 3′s in 78-61 win
CLEVELAND (AP) — Lavone Holland II scored 21 points and Drew McDonald scored 19 and Northern Kentucky beat Cleveland State convincingly 78-61 on Saturday.
Cleveland State beats first-place Wright State 77-74
CLEVELAND (AP) — Bobby Word made five of Cleveland State's school-record-tying 14 3-pointers in scoring 18 points and the Vikings upset Wright State 77-74 on Thursday night.
The loss dropped the Raiders (17-7, 9-2 Horizon) into a first-place tie with Northern Kentucky (9-2), which beat Youngstown State 95-85 Thursday.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Jeremiah Bell tied his career high with five 3-pointers and scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, Brett Prahl added 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Milwaukee beat Cleveland State 67-63 on Saturday.
Stull and Vance Johnson added 11 points apiece for Milwaukee (9-8, 2-2 Horizon League). Johnson also grabbed eight rebounds.
Carpenter leads Cleveland State to 80-79 win over Green Bay
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kenny Carpenter scored two layups to give Cleveland State the lead in the closing minutes and then blocked Green Bay's last field goal attempt as the Vikings held off the Phoenix 80-79 on Thursday night.
Niagara holds off Cleveland State 79-77
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Kahlil Dukes scored 21 and hit a key 3-pointer with 2:17 left to help Niagara hold off Cleveland State 79-77 on Tuesday night.
The teams traded 11-1 runs in the final 7 ½ minutes. The Purple Eagles (6-6) used their run to build a 73-62 lead and the Vikings' response cut the deficit back to one with 3½ minutes left.
Cleveland State goes deep to beat Notre Dame College, 89-56
CLEVELAND (AP) — Bobby Word and Kenny Carpenter combined to score 36 points and Cleveland State tied a school record by hitting 14 3-pointers en route to a comfortable, 89-56 win over Division II-Notre Dame College on Sunday.
The Vikings launched 39 3-point attempts. Word led the barrage, hitting 4 of 13 from distance. Shawn Christian, who hit 3 of 6 attempts from deep, and Carpenter, who was 2 of 6, were the only other players to convert more than a single trey.
De La Rosa, Kent State hold off Cleveland State 72-62
KENT, Ohio (AP) — Adonis De La Rosa scored 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists to propel Kent State to a 72-62 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday.
Kevin Zabo added 17 points, but he was just 1 of 8 from 3-point range as the Golden Flashes (5-3) connected on 5 of 26 (19.2 percent) from long range. Jalen Avery had 15 points and BJ Duling scored 10 for Kent State (5-3).
Carpenter scores 17, Cleveland State takes 75-72 win
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kenny Carpenter scored 17 points and Cleveland State held on to edge Arkansas State 75-72 on Wednesday night.
The Vikings (2-4) led 70-62 after a 10-0 run before the Red Wolves responded with seven straight to get within a point with 3½ minutes left. The margin was still one point, 73-72, when the teams both botched inbounds plays in the final five seconds giving the final possession to the Vikings, who added two free throws from Bobby Word.
Carpenter’s big half carries Cleveland State to 80-56 win
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kenny Carpenter scored 24 of his career-high 26 points in the first half, making six 3-pointers, and Cleveland State picked up its first victory this season, beating Coppin State 80-56 on Friday night in the Vikings' home opener.
Carpenter, a senior, scored 11 points in a 13-5 run to start the game and the Vikings rode his big half to a 41-24 lead.
