Man pleads guilty to drowning 6-year-old nephew
EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A Texas man has pleaded guilty to drowning his 6-year-old nephew in a bathtub north of Seattle.
The Daily Herald reports 20-year-old Andrew Henckel of Kerrville, Texas pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday as part of a plea deal.
Part of the agreement calls for a mental health evaluation.

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — James Avery, a World War II bomber pilot who grew his artisan jewelry business from his in-laws' two-car garage to a national retail chain, has died. He was 96.
A statement from the Kerrville, Texas-based business said Avery died Monday but provided no details.
Avery began fashioning his mostly Christian-themed creations himself with his wife in his in-laws' Kerrville garage in 1954. He didn't hire his first outside employee until three years later.

Authorities say the body of Henckel's nephew, Dayvid Pakko, was found Tuesday after an overnight search. Documents say the boy was drowned.

Authorities searched for Dayvid Pakko for hours after the boy went missing from this apartment Monday afternoon. Searchers found his body early Tuesday in a trash bin at his apartment complex.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A 44-year-old wounded retired soldier arrested by FBI agents in San Antonio is accused of threatening to kill Veterans Administration workers and posting online threats to blow up an agency building.
Federal prosecutors say Walter Steven Crosley told a VA nurse in June that he "may be the next guy that takes y'all out" and posted videos online threatening to destroy the VA facility in Kerrville.

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — KISS frontman Gene Simmons is udderly thrilled by a newborn calf born with strikingly similar black-and-white markings to the face paint he wears on stage.
Simmons tweeted his admiration for the calf on Sunday, saying, "This is real, folks!!!"
The calf was born Friday at a ranch near Kerrville, Texas, which is about 60 miles (96 kilometers) northwest of San Antonio.
Mom declined to bring doomed kids inside residence, officials say
Despite the cries of her two infant daughters left in a vehicle outside a friend’s home in Kerrville last week, authorities say Amanda Hawkins wouldn’t bring them into the house where she stayed overnight.
“They’ll cry themselves to sleep,” she told one person who expressed concern during the 15 hours that Brynn Hawkins, 1, and Addyson Overgard-Eddy, 2, spent in a parked SUV, Kerr County Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said Tuesday.
Two young sisters died after after their mother intentionally left them in a car for more than 15 hours, Texas authorities said Friday.

KERRVILLE — Local police are defending their handling of an indecency complaint against City Councilman Gary Stork last summer, which was days from going to a grand jury when Stork and his wife were found dead in their home.
Some observers argue Stork should have been quickly arrested based on the teen girl’s accusation that he groped her during the city’s July 4 celebration in Louise Hays Park, especially after an attorney for the victim said Stork implicated himself during police questioning.
KERRVILLE — Court proceedings Friday revealed the late Kerrville Councilman Gary Stork faced allegations of sexual misconduct from more than one complainant when he and his wife died last September in a suspected murder-suicide, which remains under investigation.
The Kerrville City Council has offered its city manager’s position to Mark McDaniel, currently an assistant city manager in Dallas, with a final vote on his contract slated for Tuesday.
“It’s going to be nice to get back to that part of the state,” McDaniel said by phone Friday from Dallas, where he’s worked for more than two years, noting he’d often visited relatives in the Hill Country.
