Broncos’ new backup QB is former Stanford star
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — If anything happens to Case Keenum, the Denver Broncos' offense would be in the hands of Kevin Hogan, who rose up the depth chart when Chad Kelly slipped up.
A third-year pro, Hogan has one NFL start on a resume that includes more wins (36) and total yardage (10,634) in college than any of the all-time great quarterbacks who played for Stanford, including his boss, John Elway.
Cards right guard Pugh active with big wrap on left hand
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona Cardinals right guard Justin Pugh was active for Thursday night's game against Denver, his injured left hand encased in a large cast-like wrap.
There were no other surprises among inactives. Broncos left guard Ron Leary (Achilles tendon) and right tackle Jared Veldheer (knee) already had been declared out, as was Cardinals left guard Mike Iupati (back) and safety Tre Boston (shoulder, ribs).
Safety Eric Berry out for Chiefs; Denver CB Brock inactive
DENVER (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs were without safety Eric Berry on Monday night against the Denver Broncos, who did not have nickel cornerback Tramaine Brock for the game.
Berry didn't practice last week and was listed as doubtful with a heel injury. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Eric Murray. Brock left last week's game with a thigh injury and was limited in practice on Saturday.
Broncos cut ties with 2016 first-round pick QB Lynch
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — John Elway cut ties with his biggest draft bust Sunday when he waived quarterback Paxton Lynch less than 24 hours after including him on the Denver Broncos' 53-man roster.
In another move, the Broncos placed safety Su'a Cravens on IR with an injured left knee and re-signed Isaiah McKenzie, the speedy returner/receiver who was among the team's cuts a day earlier.
QB Hogan, WR Quick, DL Taylor cut by Redskins to get to 53
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Third-string quarterback Kevin Hogan, receiver Brian Quick and defensive lineman Phil Taylor were among the players the Washington Redskins cut to get down to the 53-man roster limit.
Among the other moves made Saturday by Washington were putting guard Tyler Catalina on injured reserve and defensive end Stacy McGee on the physically unable to perform list.
The team kept five running backs, including fumble-prone Samaje Perine, while Kapri Bibbs was released.
Cleveland Browns ship Kevin Hogan to Washington, complete 2017 QB room cleanse
The Browns now have the same number of quarterbacks left on their roster who attempted a pass last season as 2017 wins.
New GM John Dorsey traded QB Kevin Hogan to Washington in exchange for a sixth-round pick Friday, per multiple reports. Hogan becomes the last of three holdover Browns quarterbacks to get dealt this offseason.
Redskins acquire QB Kevin Hogan from Browns
The Washington Redskins traded a sixth-round round pick Friday to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for quarterback Kevin Hogan and a sixth-round pick.
In Hogan, the Redskins add a developmental quarterback to pair with veterans Alex Smith and Colt McCoy. Hogan, a 2016 fifth-round pick, started one game with the Browns last season. He has 621 career yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Cleveland Browns quarterback woes solved: Beyond Belief (opinion video)

Time does not permit us to go back and detail all the woes endured by the Browns since they returned, but we've gone through a lot of quarterbacks, that's for sure. See if any of these names ring a bell.
Upgrade: Browns rookie QB Kizer back after one-week benching
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — DeShone Kizer went on a weekend retreat to a place he never wants to visit again.
The sideline is not the rookie quarterback's spot.
Benched for last week's game in Houston by Browns coach Hue Jackson following a rash of turnovers and costly interceptions in the red zone, Kizer was reinstated as Cleveland's starter on Wednesday.
The NFL's youngest starting QB will make his sixth start on Sunday when the winless Browns (0-6) face the Tennessee Titans.
Browns remain winless after another QB struggles
HOUSTON (AP) — Cleveland started a new quarterback on Sunday. The results were the same.
Kevin Hogan became the 28th different starter at quarterback for the Browns since 1999 after rookie DeShone Kizer was benched this week. But Hogan's mistakes kept the Browns (0-6) winless with a 33-17 loss to the Houston Texans.
Watson shines for Texans as Kizer struggles with Browns
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns both looked to rookies to start at quarterback this season.
While Houston's Deshaun Watson has improved each week since taking over at halftime of the season opener, Cleveland's DeShone Kizer has struggled so much the Browns (0-5) benched him this week as they look to get their first win on Sunday at Houston.

Browns change QBs again, replace Kizer with Hogan as starter
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kevin Hogan was fourth on the depth chart in training camp. He's now Cleveland's starting quarterback.
‘Shaken’ Jackson undecided on Browns’ QB situation
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Hue Jackson made a drastic decision on Sunday with DeShone Kizer.
Now he's got a bigger one: keep the rookie quarterback on the bench or play Kevin Hogan.
And as Jackson weighs the pros and cons on how to best handle Cleveland's latest quarterbacking conundrum, he again said the losing is taking its toll.
Drop-back: Browns rookie QB Kizer benched in second half
CLEVELAND (AP) — Swapping his helmet for a baseball cap, DeShone Kizer stood on the sideline and watched.
There was nothing else to do.
Benched by coach Hue Jackson for being ineffective, Kizer sat out the second half of Cleveland's 17-14 loss on Sunday to the New York Jets and may have lost his job to Kevin Hogan.
Kizer threw an interception in the first half, when he also checked out of a play that turned into a critical turnover as the Browns (0-5) dropped to 1-20 in two seasons under Jackson.
Brock On: Osweiler picked to start Browns exhibition opener
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Brock Osweiler has risen from trade throw-in to preseason starter.
The Browns' never-ending quarterback saga has produced yet another surprise.
Cleveland coach Hue Jackson picked Osweiler over Cody Kessler, rookie DeShone Kizer and Kevin Hogan to start Thursday's exhibition opener against the New Orleans Saints in what will be an important stage in a QB competition that's midway through its second week, with no end in sight.
Incomplete: Browns’ QB competition rolls on with no leader
CLEVELAND (AP) — No touchdowns. No sensational plays. No clarity.
Cleveland's quarterback competition doesn't seem any closer to a conclusion.
Calling the play of his QBs "spotty" during a scrimmage at FirstEnergy Stadium, Browns coach Hue Jackson said he isn't ready to name his starting quarterback for the Sept. 11 season opener.
"This thing is still really fluid in my mind," Jackson said Friday night.
Special One: Top pick Garrett impressive as Browns open camp
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — On Day One, Myles Garrett looked like a legitimate No. 1.
Bursting off the line of scrimmage during a pass-rush drill, Garrett quickly got around offensive tackle Rod Johnson, a fellow rookie who could do little to slow down the speedy defensive end and top pick in this year's draft.
PHOENIX (AP) — Browns coach Hue Jackson has little use for pro days, especially when looking at quarterbacks.
Cleveland is still searching for its franchise QB after nearly two decades back in the NFL. The Browns have the top overall draft pick following a 1-15 season, and also the 12th pick. Should they opt to select a quarterback, it will be one who came to a private workout.
Pryor not concerned about uncertainty surrounding Redskins
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Terrelle Pryor doesn't know if Kirk Cousins will be the Washington Redskins' starting quarterback, but he hopes so.
Pryor signed a one-year deal with the Redskins last week hours after Cousins signed his franchise tender, and the day after the team fired general manager Scot McCloughan. Pryor wants Cousins to be the one throwing him the ball, but he doesn't need that after what the versatile receiver went through with the Browns.
Cleveland Browns could be preparing for a return of QB Robert Griffin III
The Browns could be preparing for a return off injured reserve from quarterback Robert Griffin III in the near future, and the latest indications from both Griffin and the Browns' management braintrust appear positive.
Griffin, who endured a broken bone in his left (non-throwing) shoulder just minutes into his Browns debut, rattled off a cycle of at least five different quarterbacks to throw a pass this season for the league's last remaining winless team at 0-10.
Bengals have tough time stopping the guy with the ball
CINCINNATI (AP) — Undrafted rookie Kevin Hogan took off, slipped through several defenders and scored on a 28-yard run, the longest touchdown scramble by a quarterback in Browns history.
All that the Bengals could do was to drop their heads.
Banged-up Browns place Bitonio on IR, QB McCown still out
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns are dropping like, well, the Browns.
Decimated by injuries since the season opener, Cleveland placed starting left guard Joel Bitonio on injured reserve Friday. They also ruled out quarterback Josh McCown for this week's game at Tennessee as he continues to recover from a broken left collarbone.
Bitonio's loss is another blow to the winless Browns (0-5), who have already started three quarterbacks, played five this season, and had no luck.
Browns shuffle QBs again, Whitehurst released after injury
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns are shuffling quarterbacks. What else is new?
With their quarterback room looking like a medical supply store, the team released veteran quarterback Charlie Whitehurst on Tuesday and promoted rookie QB Kevin Hogan from the practice squad to the active roster.
Whitehurst injured his left knee in the final minutes of Sunday's 33-13 loss to New England. The longtime backup known as "Clipboard Jesus" reached an injury settlement with the team before he was let go.
Chiefs cut Murray, Hogan while trading 2 to reach NFL limit
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have gone from the talent-bereft team acquiring everybody's cast-offs just a few years ago to the team that is now sending its own fringe players away for draft picks.
Kansas City traded cornerback Marcus Cooper to Arizona and wide receiver Rod Streater to San Francisco for undisclosed selections, part of a series of roster moves that allowed the Chiefs to reach the NFL's 53-man limit for the regular season by Saturday's deadline.
Ryan Burns to start for Stanford in opener
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Senior Ryan Burns will start at quarterback for Stanford in the No. 8 Cardinal's opener against Kansas State.
Coach David Shaw announced the decision after practice Wednesday, also saying junior quarterback Keller Chryst would see action against the Wildcats at home Sept. 2.
