Crosby hits FG as time expires, Packers beat 49ers 33-30
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A pick, a beneficial penalty and a game-winning kick.
Quite a final minute for the Green Bay Packers.
Mason Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to cap an 81-yard drive set up by Kevin King's interception with 1:07 left, and the Packers outlasted the San Francisco 49ers for a 33-30 win on Monday night.
McCarthy: Protecting the ball will solve Packers’ woes
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Protect the football and it should fix everything.
That seems to be the viewpoint of Mike McCarthy, whose Green Bay Packers have a variety of issues that have led to a 2-2-1 start.
"The big part of that game is focusing on the things we can control," McCarthy said Monday, one day after his team lost at Detroit, 31-23, after digging itself a 24-0 hole. "We have to take care of the football."
Lasers beat Freedoms to win 1st World Team Tennis title
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Miomir Kecmanovic beat Kevin King 5-3 in men's singles to give the Springfield Lasers their first World Team Tennis championship, beating the Philadelphia Freedoms 19-18 in the finals Sunday.
Women's MVP Taylor Townsend had given Philadelphia a 15-14 lead with a 5-2 win over Springfield's Vania King heading into the final match.
Springfield had lost in five finals over 23 years and was 0-3 against Philadelphia this season.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — One of the first passes thrown by Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay Packers camp was as noteworthy for who was competing for the ball as much as the play's result.
Cornerback Kevin King, locked in coverage deep against receiver Randall Cobb, appeared to wrestle away an interception, though the ever-competitive quarterback disputed that call.
Packers bring back veteran cornerback Tramon Williams
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Tramon Williams is returning to the Green Bay Packers to help replenish the secondary.
The team signed the free agent cornerback on Friday. The 11-year veteran spent the first eight seasons of his career in Green Bay, intercepting 28 passes in 127 games including 99 starts.
Williams played last season with Arizona after spending two years in Cleveland. New Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine was coach of the Browns in Williams' first year in Cleveland in 2015.
Packers: After playing through shoulder injury, Kevin King’s rookie season comes to painful end
GREEN BAY — Kevin King’s season is officially over. But before it ended, the Green Bay Packers rookie cornerback certainly impressed his teammates with his willingness to play through the painful shoulder injury that finally landed him on injured reserve Wednesday.
Packers’ Kevin King out for season with shoulder injury
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The early end to rookie Kevin King's season in Green Bay opened a path for Demetri Goodson to return to the secondary following a serious knee injury.
King's season is over after the team placed the cornerback on injured reserve Wednesday with a lingering shoulder injury.
The 6-foot-3 King, who was inactive for two of the past three games, gave the defense a mix of height and speed that they had been lacking at cornerback to play effective press coverage.
Packers: Search goes on for a No. 1 cornerback in uneven secondary
GREEN BAY — Let’s be clear: Even if the Green Bay Packers had a clear-cut, lockdown No. 1 cornerback, it’s not as if that person — whoever it might’ve been — would have held Antonio Brown in check.
Packers hoping rookie CB Kevin King ready to go vs. Steelers
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Kevin King has shouldered a heavy load in Green Bay's secondary. The Packers are hoping he's ready to handle some more this weekend.
The health of the rookie cornerback's left shoulder will determine how much of a role he'll play in Sunday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. King, whose issues date to a torn labrum during his freshman year at the University of Washington, was inactive for last week's loss to Baltimore.
Packers get starting OL back with G Lane Taylor active
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Packers left guard Lane Taylor is active for the Monday night game against Detroit, allowing the Packers to play their entire starting offensive line for just the second time this season.
Taylor is back after missing a game with an ankle injury.
Cornerbacks Damarious Randall (hamstring/illness) and Kevin King (back) are also active for the Packers against the Lions' potent passing game. They were each listed as questionable.
Brett Hundley was better running than passing in his starting debut, though he really wasn't asked to throw downfield. With a conservative game plan, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams totaled 40 yards on five catches. Aaron Jones made great cuts and showed power en route to 131 yards rushing.
Packers S Morgan Burnett sidelined by hamstring injury
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Packers safety Morgan Burnett will miss Sunday's game against Minnesota with a hamstring injury, and Green Bay might be down another starter in the secondary in cornerback Kevin King.
Burnett was ruled out on Friday, and the Packers listed King as doubtful. The rookie cornerback, who is in the concussion protocol, hasn't practiced yet this week.
Packers rookie defenders make key plays in OT win
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Packers got a glimpse of what their top two draft picks are capable of during Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, with hybrid safety/linebacker Josh Jones and cornerback Kevin King making their first NFL starts.
And they did not disappoint.
"Anytime you can get your young players in there and get that experience, (it's valuable)," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday, one day after the team's 27-24 overtime victory over the Bengals.

Packers’ healthy, confident CBs prep for Falcons rematch
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are so confident in their new-and-improved cornerback group that they released the player who shadowed Atlanta Falcons star receiver Julio Jones in last season's NFC championship game.
Rodgers anchors offense, but D key again for Packers’ hopes
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Expectations will always be high for the Green Bay Packers' offense with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.
Perennial hopes to return to the Super Bowl might rest on whether the Packers can successfully answer familiar issues on the other side of the line of scrimmage.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Outside of the Packers, few other NFL teams might be able to crowd more than 63,000 fans into a stadium to watch an NFL preseason practice.
Green Bay fans take advantage of any opportunity to watch their team at Lambeau Field.
Packers: Rookie cornerback Kevin King gets tested by Aaron Rodgers
GREEN BAY — Kevin King knew it was coming. The Green Bay Packers rookie cornerback had been warned.
After missing Tuesday’s practice with a shoulder injury, King was back on the field on Thursday night. In between, cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt had told him to expect quarterback Aaron Rodgers to go after him, to see what he’s made of. That wasn’t Rodgers’ idea — though the two-time NFL MVP was happy to oblige. It was Whitt’s.
Packers: Rookie cornerback Kevin King misses practice due to shoulder injury
GREEN BAY — Another day, another of the Green Bay Packers’ top draft picks out of the lineup.
After starting camp with outside linebacker Vince Biegel on the physically unable to perform list following offseason foot surgery and losing defensive tackle Montravius Adams to a stress fracture in his foot that required surgery earlier this week, the Packers were without cornerback Kevin King for Tuesday’s practice because of a shoulder injury.
Packers rookie DL Montravious Adams out with foot injury
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers rookie defensive tackle Montravious Adams will miss time at training camp because of a foot injury.
Coach Mike McCarthy said before practice Tuesday that Adams had surgery this week and will be out "multiple weeks." Adams was a third-round pick in the NFL draft out of Auburn.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — It didn't take long for the Green Bay Packers' first draft pick, cornerback Kevin King, to get his shot with the starting defense.
After Green Bay lined up with Davon House and LaDarius Gunter as the cornerbacks and Damarious Randall in the slot for Thursday's first day of training camp, the coaches switched things up on Friday, with House and King as the cornerbacks and Quinten Rollins in the slot.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy likes how the team's young players are performing in minicamp.
McCarthy said before Wednesday's workouts that the reps are critical for the young players. He singled out a few Packers including cornerback Damarious Randall, who McCarthy says has been outstanding this offseason.
Packers: Rookie cornerback Kevin King finally allowed to practice for first time since early May
GREEN BAY — For the past month or so, Kevin King’s iPhone call log was dominated by one 920 number — the one belonging to Green Bay Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt, who was FaceTiming the rookie throughout the offseason program that King was missing due to an archaic NFL rule.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers won't rush Kevin King, even if the team's top draft pick is eager to get to work after missing virtually all the offseason program because of NFL rules.
The rookie cornerback was anxious to take part in the first of the team's three minicamp practices on Tuesday, though coach Mike McCarthy limited him to just individual drills. It is unlikely King will do any 11-on-11 work before the camp ends on Thursday.
Tom Oates: Draft picks provide Packers with more versatility on defense
Despite needs at multiple positions entering last month’s draft, the Green Bay Packers used their top two picks — both second-rounders — on defensive backs.
Still, assuming cornerback Kevin King and safety Josh Jones possess NFL-caliber talent, the Packers’ preoccupation with upgrading their secondary could be a stroke of genius, perhaps as soon as this season, because it will allow them to alter their approach.
GREEN BAY — Kevin King laughed at the question. Not in an I-can’t-believe-you-asked-me-that sort of way, though. It was more of a knowing chuckle, a proud yeah-that-was-me response to a query about a play that is required viewing in every highlight reel put together on the Green Bay Packers’ top draft pick.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Kevin King likes to think of himself as an easygoing guy. Still, the Packers' top draft pick had to admit that his first official day as an NFL player brought out the nerves.
"I actually forgot it was my birthday," said the 22-year-old King, a second-round choice out of Washington who was the first of the Packers' 10 draft picks last weekend. "I was running around the field and one of the guys said, "Hey, Kevin, happy birthday!' And I'm like, 'Oh yeah, thank you.'"
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — What a day for Montravius Adams.
First he became a father after his girlfriend gave birth to their first child, son Montravius Adams, Jr., at about 2:30 p.m. Friday. About eight hours later, life changed again for the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Adams as the Auburn defensive lineman was drafted in the third round by the Green Bay Packers.
"Man, there (are) really no words I can say," Adams said. "I'm just thankful for the blessings."
Washington DBs popular in 2nd round, Mixon to Bengals
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — It's Philly, so of course they booed.
Roger Goodell heard it. Cincinnati's selection of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon intensified it.
And Drew Pearson incited the fans at the NFL draft Friday night by lauding — and lauding and lauding — the hated Dallas Cowboys.
Run on Washington DBs highlights 2nd round of NFL draft
The second round of the NFL draft became a showcase for the talent Chris Petersen is building at Washington.
Three defensive backs from the Huskies were taken in the first 11 picks in the second round of the draft on Friday night. Cornerback Kevin King was taken by Green Bay with the first pick of the second round and No. 33 overall; safety Budda Baker was nabbed by Arizona with the No. 36 overall selection; and injured cornerback Sidney Jones was taken at No. 43 overall by Philadelphia.
Pick: Gareon ConleyPosition: CBSchool: Ohio StateBing made this projection before it was reported that Conley was accused of raping a woman in Cleveland earlier this month. Washington's Kevin King could be a fit here, as he is a big, rangy cornerback that Seattle has loved to use in recent years.
Washington relished the underdog role against No. 1 Alabama
ATLANTA (AP) — Overlooked in the College Football Playoff, the Washington Huskies know what's expected of them.
One-and-done against mighty Alabama.
Actually, after spending a few days in Atlanta, they sort of understand the logic.
Now on Eastern time, some of the Huskies tried to stay up late watching Boise State — coach Chris Petersen's former school — play in the Cactus Bowl.
Washington secondary takes ‘pick board’ tally to semifinal
ATLANTA (AP) — The competitive fire that has helped Washington's defense lead the nation in takeaways is not used just against opposing teams.
Washington players also compete against each other, including in the secondary where the "pick board" tally will carry into Saturday's Peach Bowl semifinal against top-ranked Alabama.
Shutdown secondary key to No. 4 Washington’s success
SEATTLE (AP) — When Budda Baker gets an opportunity to sit down and watch NFL games on Sundays, or when he takes the time to watch film of the pros he would like to emulate, it all looks very familiar.
He sees the same techniques, the same coverages being played by the professionals that he's been taught since arriving at Washington.
"Exactly to a T. We run an NFL defense," Baker said. "You see certain types of techniques that those guys are doing and you see techniques that we are doing."
No. 7 Washington rolls past Arizona State, 44-18
SEATTLE (AP) — In the final home game of his Washington career, Kevin King gave the Huskies the jolt they needed.
The cornerback's one-handed interception was so good, even the officials were asking where it ranked.
"The ref asked me that where that ranked. In my mind it's like (No.) 5 or 6, but in reality it's No. 1 for sure," King said.
