COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Kevin Puryear had not made a 3-pointer since Jan. 10, missing a dozen attempts since then.
But with the shot clock running out and only 10 seconds left in overtime, Puryear made a 3 from the left corner to give Missouri the lead in an 89-85 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday.
"I knew I was going to shoot it when I got it, because my guy was helping off," said Puryear. "I had a wide-open 3 in the corner. It was up to me to let it go."
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Quinndary Weatherspoon scored a team-high 20 points as Mississippi State defeated Missouri 74-62 on Saturday night.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Bulldogs (15-6, 3-5 SEC). Abdul Ado and Nick Weatherspoon each had 12 points for Mississippi State while Tyson Carter added 10 points.
Kassius Robertson had 20 points to lead Missouri (13-8, 3-5) while Kevin Puryear added 10 points.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Tennessee cut Missouri's lead to one with 1:33 left, and the Tigers were forced to do something they've struggled with all season: close out a game.
Unlike two recent last-second conference losses, Missouri sealed one up Wednesday night, holding on to beat No. 21 Tennessee 59-55.
"One thing in our two losses we had is our margin of error is so slim," Missouri forward Kevin Puryear said.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri's Jontay Porter didn't hesitate. Jordan Geist flung a pass to the freshman forward, who took one step, jumped over 6-foot-8 Georgia forward Yante Maten and crashed the ball into the net.
The crowd at Mizzou Arena erupted, foreshadowing the explosiveness Missouri would have in the second half on Wednesday night. On the drive after Porter's dunk, Geist stole the ball from William Jackson III and made the layup to cut Georgia's lead to three at the halftime buzzer.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Kevin Puryear scored a season-high 20 points and Jordan Barnett tied his career-high with five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and eight rebounds as Missouri ran past Miami (Ohio) 70-51 on Tuesday night.
Kassius Robertson added 17 points, including three 3s, and Jeremiah Tilmon finished with 12 points and six rebounds for Missouri (7-2). The Tigers struggled out of the gate but eventually got hot from distance, making 10 of 23.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Jevon Carter scored 29 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute, and No. 23 West Virginia overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to beat Missouri 83-79 on Sunday night in the Advocare Invitational championship game.
Daxter Miles Jr. added 26 points, including four late free throws, for West Virginia (6-1).
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A complete offseason makeover raised the expectations exponentially for the Missouri basketball team. But a mysterious injury to star freshman Michael Porter Jr. and a few atrocious shooting nights have tempered the excitement for the Tigers, who needed to hang on in the last minute to beat Division II Emporia State 67-62 on Monday.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — What was supposed to be an easy tuneup against a Division II opponent turned out to be a stern test for Missouri.
The Tigers edged Emporia State 67-62 on Monday in a game in which they shot 10 percent from 3-point range and 56 percent from the foul line.
Jeremiah Tilmon and Kevin Puryear each scored 13 points, and Jontay Porter added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Missouri (3-1).
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — The highly anticipated debut of Michael Porter Jr. was brief. The Missouri Tigers did just fine without him in a 74-59 victory over Iowa State in the season opener.
Porter, considered one of the top two recruits in the nation, played just two minutes and scored two points before taking a seat on the bench with an ice pack on his left hip. A team spokesman said he "tweaked" the hip and was held out for the rest of the game as a precaution.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Missouri coach Kim Anderson slapped some high-fives as he walked off the court and yelled out some words he knows he probably shouldn't have said.
Considering Missouri already announced the coach is done once this season ends, Anderson has nothing left to lose now.
"What are they going to do to me?" Anderson said. "See you tomorrow."

Missouri (6-16, 1-9 SEC) fell 84-72 on Feb. 20, 2016 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, beginning a streak of 14 consecutive SEC losses.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri coach Kim Anderson is still tinkering with his coaching style in his third season at the Division-I level.
At halftime of the Tigers' 81-55 victory over Miami (Ohio) Tuesday, Anderson "jumped" his players in the locker room.
"The idea of getting leads and then losing leads, that's not acceptable," Anderson said. "We can't continue to do that. This team will only be as good as how it reacts to adversity... Our margin of error isn't as great as some teams."
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — After a 62-52 loss to North Carolina Central Monday night, Missouri coach Kim Anderson required his players to practice the entire week without wearing team athletic gear.
He didn't wear any either.
However unorthodox the method, it would appear the message got through.
