New Jersey Devils place D Steven Santini on injured reserve
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils have placed defenseman Steven Santini on injured reserve with a broken jaw.
Santini was hurt Saturday when a puck hit him in the face in the first period against the Philadelphia Flyers. It was his first game of the season.
In addition to placing Santini on the injured list, the Devils announced Monday they had recalled forward Kevin Rooney and defenseman Egor Yakvolev from Binghamton of the AHL.
New Jersey Devils sign F Kevin Rooney to 2-year contract
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Kevin Rooney to a two-year contract.
General Manager Ray Shero announced the contract Monday. He says the first year will be a two-way deal in which Rooney will earn $700,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level, with $70,000 guaranteed. The second year is worth $700,000 at the NHL level.
Town celebrates retirement of long-time mail carrier
PROCTOR, Vt. (AP) — Kevin Rooney delivered his last letter last week.
The longtime Proctor mail carrier is retiring, an event that resulted in signs wishing him well appearing outside the library and the town clerk's office.
"Everybody in Proctor loves Kevin," said Shannon Maass, who put up the signs. "He's a ray of sunshine when he comes to deliver your mail. . He's someone you just always look forward to seeing."
Rooney said he kept his cheer right through his last day.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The Democrat-led state Assembly welcomed three new lawmakers.
Democrats Robert Karabinchak and Blonnie Watson, who won their seats in a special November election, were sworn in on Monday, as was Republican Kevin Rooney, who was tapped to fill in for Scott Rumana. Republican Gov. Chris Christie appointed Rumana as a judge.
The members were sworn in by Democratic Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto.
