Georgia hires Warren from Florida as defensive backs coach
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia coach Kirby Smart has hired Charlton Warren from Florida as defensive backs coach.
Warren spent the 2018 season as Florida's cornerbacks coach after coaching defensive backs and special teams at Tennessee in 2017.
Warren, an Atlanta native, previously had coaching stops at North Carolina (2015-16), Nebraska (2014) and Air Force (2005-13). He played as a defensive back at Air Force.
Former Georgia DB Deangelo Gibbs transferring to Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Former Georgia defensive back Deangelo Gibbs is transferring to Tennessee.
Gibbs tweeted Friday that "I am 100% committed to giving everything I have to the #VolNation." The Tennessee football program's official Twitter account sent out a tweet with Gibbs in a Tennessee uniform along with the message "Welcome To Rocky Top."
Georgia’s Smart hires Hartley from Miami as tight ends coach
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia coach Kirby Smart has hired Todd Hartley from Miami to coach the Bulldogs' tight ends.
Hartley returns to Georgia after spending the last three seasons as Miami's special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
A native of Gray, Georgia, Hartley was Georgia's director of player personnel in 2015 following four seasons on the Marshall staff. He first worked at Georgia as a student assistant from 2005-08.
Georgia promotes James Coley to offensive coordinator
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — James Coley was promoted to Georgia's offensive coordinator on Friday, taking over a lead role after Jim Chaney left for Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee.
The 45-year-old Coley served as co-offensive coordinator this past season, handling the quarterbacks while Chaney called plays and worked with the tight ends.
Coley came to Georgia when Kirby Smart was hired as head coach in 2016, overseeing the wide receivers for two seasons.
Georgia safety J.R. Reed returning for senior season
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia safety J.R. Reed says he is returning for his senior season, giving the Bulldogs good news two days after the offense lost four juniors to the NFL draft.
Reed announced on his Twitter account Sunday he made the decision after consulting with his family and Georgia coach Kirby Smart.
Reed was second on the team with 66 tackles while starting every game.
Texas looks to continue resurgence vs Georgia in Sugar Bowl
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Texas coach Tom Herman has needed less than two years to pull the football program out of mediocrity and get to a prestigious bowl game on New Year's Day.
The 14th-ranked Longhorns will face No. 6 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on Tuesday night looking to continue their resurgence on the national landscape. Herman hopes his team is ready to take advantage of the opportunity.
"This is another very important step," Herman said. "Winning it would certainly be even bigger."
Georgia signs QB Mathis as Fields considers transfer
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Quarterback Dwan Mathis signed with Georgia on Wednesday after giving a verbal commitment to Ohio State, giving the Bulldogs crucial depth at the position as Justin Fields contemplates a possible transfer.

Georgia freshman quarterback Justin Fields was listed Tuesday night in the NCAA's transfer database among the players who have notified their school of their intention to leave, a person with access to database told The Associated Press.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the NCAA's so-called transfer portal is not public. The person also provided a screenshot to the AP showing Fields listed in the database, with an NCAA identification number and a date initiated of Dec. 18, 2018.

Georgia radio personality hospitalized, injured at practice
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Longtime Georgia sideline reporter and radio commentator Loran Smith was hospitalized after being struck by two players while attending a Bulldogs football practice.
The school says two players ran out of bounds on a special teams play and collided with Smith on Monday.
Smith had hip surgery at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. He's expected to be released from the hospital by Thursday.
Georgia’s Smart says Kindley improving, could play vs. LSU
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Left guard Solomon Kindley participated in practice Tuesday for No. 2 Georgia and hasn't been ruled out for Saturday's game at No. 13 LSU.
Kindley was carted off the field with a right knee injury early in last week's blowout win over Vanderbilt. He has a mild sprain of his medial collateral ligament, but seems to be improving.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Left tackle Andrew Thomas was held out of Monday's practice for No. 3 Georgia after leaving last week's win over South Carolina with a left ankle sprain.
Coach Kirby Smart said before the practice he hopes Thomas can play in Saturday's game against Middle Tennessee State before adding "but we still don't know."

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm knew the third-ranked Bulldogs were built to last after their run to last season's national title game. He believes the rest of the country found that out Saturday.

Georgia freshman Zamir White suffers another ACL injury
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia freshman tailback Zamir White suffered his second anterior cruciate ligament injury in less than a year Saturday, likely ending his hopes of playing this season.
Georgia confirmed tests showed White tore the ACL in his left knee injury in a scrimmage at Sanford Stadium.
Coach Kirby Smart said White was hurt during a special teams play.
"Zamir was on punt coverage and it was a non-contact injury," Smart said.
