Gray, who has 19 years of coaching experience, worked at Florida during the 2016 season. He spent the last two years with the NFL's Washington Redskins before being fired in January.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears rode a dominant defense to the NFC North championship in a breakout season. They hope to keep it going with a new coordinator.

Bears on verge of playoffs after ‘D’ dominates against Rams
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears were in trouble, leading by nine with the Rams in prime position following a big interception return by Joe Johnson III on an overthrown ball by Mitchell Trubisky.
On the next play, with Los Angeles at the 27, Kyle Fuller picked off a wobbly pass by Jared Goff. In a flash, the threat was over and the Bears could breathe a little easier.
That sequence late in the third quarter pretty much summed up the game.
Stafford’s 2 interceptions sink Lions in loss to Chicago
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions were the team with the healthy starting quarterback, but in the end, Matthew Stafford came up short.

The Hokies are poised to add another name to their list of first-round NFL Draft picks later this week when, all likelihood, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds goes off the board sometime Thursday night in the first 32 picks.
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have matched the Green Bay Packers' offer sheet for cornerback Kyle Fuller and signed him to a four-year contract.
The Bears announced Tuesday they are retaining Fuller.
A person familiar with the situation said Friday that Fuller signed an offer sheet with the Packers. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because neither team had announced that move.
After losing out on Kyle Fuller, should Packers make a (Davon) House call?
GREEN BAY — With their creative play for Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller having gone for naught and the free agent market at their most uncertain position drying up before their very eyes, it sure looks like the Green Bay Packers need to bring back veteran Davon House.
And maybe even reach further back into their cornerback history and reach out to veteran Tramon Williams, too.
Bears match Packers’ offer sheet for cornerback Kyle Fuller
GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Packers took a shot at solving their cornerback conundrum Friday when they signed Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller to an offer sheet — an offer sheet Chicago reportedly matched immediately.
First-year Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst had said earlier this week there were a number of avenues he would pursue to improve the troublesome position.
Signing Fuller to an offer sheet was certainly an out-of-the-box idea, even if it turned out to be a fruitless one.
AP source: Packers sign Bears’ Kyle Fuller to offer sheet
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have signed Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller to an offer sheet, a person familiar with the situation said Friday.
Fuller is the Bears' transition player, and the tag gives Chicago five days to match the offer.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither team has announced the signing. The Chicago Tribune first reported the move.

Chicago Bears use transition tag on Kyle Fuller, a creative way to keep top CB long term
The Bears have come up with a more creative and less expensive way of keeping free-agent cornerback Kyle Fuller.
They placed the rarely used transition tag on Fuller just hours before the Tuesday deadline, rather than using the more expensive franchise tag or letting one of their most valuable defensive players leave as an unrestricted free agent.
NFL’s annual game of tag ends, and only six players are it
The NFL's tag deadline passed Tuesday with only six players receiving the one-year tender from clubs. Five players received franchise tags, with one — Chicago Bears CB Kyle Fuller — receiving the seldom used transition tag.
Here's our analysis of each transaction. Clubs have until July 16 to reach a long-term deal with franchise players (transition players have until July 23 to sign a long-term pact) before they're forced to play on the one-year tender.
Chicago Bears put transition tag on DB Kyle Fuller
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have placed the transition tag on veteran defensive back Kyle Fuller, giving them a chance to match any offer he might receive in free agency.
The 26-year-old Fuller is considered a key player for Chicago's defense. The tag, announced Tuesday, guarantees Fuller $12.9 million next season.
3 and out: Bears make quick work of hapless Browns
Breaking down the Bears' 20-3 win Sunday to move the Cleveland Browns to within one game of a winless season.
LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Wednesday at Halas Hall was a day for Chicago Bears coaches and players to talk about Pro Bowl snubs and once again . . . injuries.
There was nothing stunning about the NFC and AFC Pro Bowl teams announced Tuesday night but it had to be disappointing for Akiem Hicks, Jordan Howard and Kyle Fuller.

Baltimore Ravens, unfamiliar opponent for most Chicago Bears, represent homecoming for a few
LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Most Chicago Bears players don’t have much first-hand knowledge about the Baltimore Ravens, Sunday’s opponent. But Baltimore is pretty close to the hearts of a few players.
Pernell McPhee was a Raven the first four years of his career. Safety Adrian Amos and cornerback Kyle Fuller both grew up in Baltimore. And running back Taquan Mizzell, who arrived to the Bears shortly before the start of the season, was in training camp with the Ravens.
Arkush: Reasons for optimism abound in new-look Chicago Bears secondary
BOURBONNAIS — There is more than a little buzz around the Chicago Bears defense this summer, and the possibility it might just take a significant step forward.
The front seven is re-stocked and locked with Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman and Jaye Howard up front and Leonard Floyd, Jerrell Freeman, Danny Trevathan, Willie Young, Lamarr Houston and Nick Kwiatkoski all hoping to make a difference at the second level.
If Pernell McPhee makes it back, so much the better.
WR Eddie Royal, DL Will Sutton among Chicago Bears’ cuts
The Bears released wide receiver Eddie Royal and waived defensive lineman Will Sutton, fullback Paul Lasike and offensive lineman Cornelius Edison on Thursday.
Royal, who turns 31 later this month, had no more guaranteed money in his contract, which paid him $10 million guaranteed when he signed it in March 2015. The Bears also don’t have any dead cap on his contract.
Bears to decline 2018 option on CB Kyle Fuller
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears will decline their fifth-year option on cornerback Kyle Fuller for the 2018 season.
General manager Ryan Pace confirmed the decision Saturday.
Fuller, the 14th overall pick in 2014, sat out last season after having arthroscopic knee surgery. The Bears were hoping to activate him late in the year, but he was unable to return.
Bears CB Fuller to remain on IR, miss entire season
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller will miss the entire season because of a knee injury.
The Bears decided not to activate the third-year pro before Wednesday's deadline. They had a 21-day practice window to evaluate him.
A first-round draft pick in 2014, Fuller had arthroscopic surgery in the preseason and went on injured reserve in late September. He says he still feels pain and expected a quicker recovery.
Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan out for the season
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured right patellar tendon.
Trevathan was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 27-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Coach John Fox said Trevathan will go on injured reserve. He becomes the team's 15th player on injured reserve, although it's possible cornerback Kyle Fuller or wide receiver Kevin White could come off of IR at some point this season.
Bears sign RB Bell, place CB Fuller on injured reserve
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have signed running back Joique Bell and placed cornerback Kyle Fuller on injured reserve.
The Bears also signed defensive lineman CJ Wilson and elevated linebacker John Timu to the active roster. They waived linebacker Jonathan Anderson and tight end Greg Scruggs on Tuesday.
Chicago Bears: Fuller needs to continue to progress
Football season is nearly back in Bourbonnais. The Chicago Bears report for training camp at Olivet Nazarene University on July 27; but until then, the Daily Journal is counting down the top 12 players who must turn in a big year for the Bears to compete in 2016.
No. 10: Concern for the defensive secondary is a familiar song at Halas Hall.
Other than team legend Charles Tillman, one would be hard pressed to think of any defensive backs in recent that would fit the...
