MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Kyle Mallers had a career-high 22 points plus 10 rebounds as Ball State romped past Western Michigan 79-59 on Saturday.
Tayler Persons had 15 points for Ball St. (13-11, 4-7 Mid-American Conference), which broke its four-game home losing streak. Brachen Hazen added 11 points. K.J. Walton had 11 points for the home team.
Walton scores 24, leads Ball State down stretch to beat CMU
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — K.J. Walton scored 16 of his career-high 24 points in the second half to lead Ball State to an 83-72 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.
The Chippewas had a five-point lead when Walton had a steal and dunk to spark an 18-3 run to give Ball State a 71-61 lead with five minutes left. Walton scored 10 points with three dunks during the stretch. CMU pulled within nine points but didn't get closer.
Persons leads hot shooting Ball State over Howard 98-71
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tayler Persons scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting Thursday night and Ball State made 14 3-pointers in a 98-71 victory over Howard.
Tahjai Teague added 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds for the Cardinals (8-4), who have won seven of eight. Ball State shot 34 of 58 (59 percent) from the field and 14 of 29 (48 percent) from 3-point range.
Teague scores 19 points, Ball State beats IUPUI 85-75
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tahjai Teague scored 19 points with nine rebounds and three steals, Tayler Persons added 16 points with eight rebounds, and Ball State beat IUPUI 85-75 on Saturday for its fourth straight win.
Zach Gunn scored 11 points and K.J. Walton and Kyle Mallers added 10 apiece for the Cardinals (5-3), who shot 56 percent and made 21 of 30 free throws.
Edwards helps No. 24 Purdue hold off Ball State 84-75
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — One big second-half push by Purdue was enough.
Carsen Edwards scored 23 points on 8-for-22 shooting, and the 24th-ranked Boilermakers pulled away from Ball State for an 84-75 victory on Saturday night.
Edwards struggled with his shooting stroke at times but managed to contribute in a variety of ways. The junior guard had five rebounds, five assists and blocked a shot.
Moses, Persons fuel Ball State comeback over Ohio, 75-68
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Trey Moses and Tayler Persons each scored 16 points and Ball State used a big second-half run to take the lead and post a 75-68 win over Ohio in a Mid-America Conference battle Tuesday night.
James Gollon drilled 3-pointer as time expired to send Ohio into intermission with a 31-29 lead and the Bobcats opened the second half on a 6-0 run.
Mount Pleasant — David DiLeo scored 22 and Cecil Williams added 14 points as Central Michigan routed Ohio, 75-50, in both teams' Mid-American Conference opener Tuesday night.
Shawn Roundtree added 13 points and Luke Meyer 12 for the Chippewas (12-2).
Central Michigan outrebounded Ohio, 44-35, with Williams pulling down nine boards.
Ball State tops Eastern Michigan 72-62 for 10th straight win
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Kyle Mallers had 17 points, Trey Moses scored 13 with 10 rebounds and Ball State rolled to a ninth straight victory, beating Eastern Michigan 72-62 in a Mid-American Conference opener on Tuesday night.
Mallers hit 7 of 10 shots from the floor and snagged seven rebounds for the Cardinals (10-4), while Tahjai Teague chipped in with 12 points, eight boards and four assists.
Ball State defeats Florida A&M 75-54 for 8th-straight win
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tahjai Teague scored 16 points and Ball State defeated Florida A&M 75-54, winning its eighth straight in a final nonconference game Friday night.
Trey Moses scored 10 points with 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (9-4) and Tayler Persons scored 10 points with four assists.
Ball State held a 39-30 advantage on the boards and outscored Florida A&M 24-16 in the paint and 15-6 on second-chance points.
Ball State wins its 7th straight, tops Jackson State 70-54
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Kyle Mallers, Sean Sellers and Francis Kiapway each scored 11 points and Ball State won its seventh straight game, knocking off Jackson State, 70-54 on Friday night.
The Cardinals, who also have won their last seven straight home games, have won seven straight for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Persons’ last-second 3 lifts Ball St over Valparaiso 71-70
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tayler Persons scored 23 points, including seven straight down the stretch and the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left, and Ball State beat Valparaiso 71-70 on Saturday to win its fifth straight.
The Crusaders regained the lead 60-56 after an 11-2 run capped by Bakari Evelyn's 3-pointer, but the Cardinals led 68-67 on Persons' jumper with 2:08 to go.
Teague lead’s balanced Ball State past IUPUI 83-64
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tahjai Teague scored 14 points and led a balanced Ball State team past IUPUI 83-64 on Saturday.
Five players reached double figures for the Cardinals (4-4) with Trey Moses and Kyle Mallers scoring 12 apiece, Tayler Persons and Sean Sellers 11 each. Ball State made 31 of 58 field goals (53 percent) and knocked down 10 3-pointers, Sellers leading with three.
Teague leads balanced Ball State to 81-57 win over D-II foe
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tahjai Teague scored 16 points on seven of nine shooting, led five players into double figures and Ball State opened a lengthy home stand by controlling the boards in an 81-57 defeat of Division II Oakland City on Tuesday night.
Teague grabbed nine rebounds, including seven off the defensive glass where the Cardinals collected 30 of their 37 rebounds as Oakland City shot just 35 percent from the floor.
Thomas scores 22 points, leads Bucknell over Ball St. 87-83
LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Zach Thomas scored 22 points, Stephen Brown added 19 and Bucknell defeated Ball State 87-83 on Wednesday night.
Thomas was 5-of-14 shooting from the field and made 12 of 14 free throws. Brown was 8 of 14 from the floor. Nana Foulland added 16 points for Bucknell (2-4). Bruce Moore scored six of his nine points in the final three minutes to help the Bison pull away.
Tayler Persons scored 21 points to lead Ball State (1-4). Kyle Mallers and Zach Gunn added 13 points apiece.
Pritchard with career-high 20, Oregon rolls past Ball State
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The lone familiar face remaining from last season's high-flying Oregon lineup gave the Ducks just what they needed Sunday night.
Payton Pritchard scored a career-high 20 points and Elijah Brown had 17 off the bench as Oregon cruised to a 95-71 victory over Ball State.
Pritchard, the starting point guard as a freshman on last year's Final Four team, also had eight assists and no turnovers for the Ducks (4-0), who upped the nation's longest home winning streak to 46 games.
Persons propels Ball State past Stony Brook in home opener
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tayler Persons poured in 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting and keyed a late run as Ball State rallied to defeat Stony Brook 87-76 in their home opener on Friday night.
The Cardinals (1-2) were clinging to a 67-64 lead when Persons got hot. The junior guard, who also grabbed six rebounds, hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 of Ball State's next 12 points to increase the Cardinals' lead to 79-69. The Seawolves (0-3) got no closer than five points over the final 2:29.
Ohio blows big lead, still edges Ball State 79-77
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Jordan Dartis led a balanced attack with 16 points and Ohio held on to defeat Ball State 79-77 on Friday night after losing a 19-point halftime lead.
The Bobcats led by as many as 25 before settling for a 49-30 lead at the half after shooting 62 percent and making 7 of 12 3-pointers.
Ball State scored eight straight, cutting the deficit to 62-55 on Kyle Mallers' 3-point play with 10:29 remaining.
