PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — When state and federal officials approved $8 million in taxpayer financing for a Southern Oregon sawmill project, they did so on the premise the investment would bring back jobs. But officials greenlighted the project despite warning signs the plan to retool the mothballed mill was likely doomed to fail.
Rhode Island to hold farmland acquisition meeting
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island environmental officials have planned another meeting about proposed rules that could allow the state to buy and protect farmland and sell it to interested farmers.
The public workshop will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography's Corless Auditorium in Narragansett.
