Michigan 7th grader has offer from Harbaugh, father says
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The father of a seventh grader in Michigan said Wednesday his son has a scholarship offer from Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
Brian Marshall said Harbaugh made the offer after watching film of his son Isaiah, who plays quarterback. Offers like this are nonbinding, so it's hard to tell how seriously they should be taken.
"He's still a kid, and we keep him pretty grounded," Brian Marshall said. "This motivated him a little bit more."
Another poor finish sends Raiders to 0-3 start under Gruden
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The last time an Oakland Raiders coach watched his team lose back-to-back games when leading after three quarters, late owner Al Davis brought out the overhead projector and fired Lane Kiffin.
There will be no repeat with Jon Gruden this week, even if that doesn't ease the pain of these late-game collapses in Oakland.
Locksley presiding over No. 1 Alabama’s potent offense
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — If Mike Locksley lacks the national cachet of other recent Alabama offensive coordinators, he does have the numbers — and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa — on his side.
He's not a big-name former head coach at a football powerhouse, like Lane Kiffin and (briefly) Steve Sarkisian or a longtime NFL assistant like Brian Daboll. Locksley's offense might still prove to be the best coach Nick Saban has had with the top-ranked Crimson Tide, which hosts Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.
Robison has record day, passes FAU past Air Force, 33-27
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — A year ago, Chris Robison was a redshirting freshman throwing passes to the practice squad guys for FAU coach Lane Kiffin. On Saturday, he was breaking school records.
Robison completed 33 of 40 passes for a school-record 471 yards and three touchdowns and FAU notched its first victory over a service academy, beating Air Force 33-27 in the Owls' home opener.
FAU had lost to Navy twice, the only other times the Owls played a service academy.

FAU favored to repeat at C-USA champ after change under Lane

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — There was a banner on the Florida Atlantic practice field commemorating the team's accomplishments from last season, which included an 11-3 record, a Conference USA championship and a blowout victory in a bowl game.

1st bowl game since 2008 for Florida Atlantic
Boca Raton Bowl: Akron (7-6) vs. FAU (10-3), Dec. 19, 7 p.m. (ESPN)
Camp Randall Stadium
One of more eye-opening stats from the opener was UW’s nine penalties, its most in a game since 2008. Speaking of trouble makers, Lane Kiffin is coming to town. That Kiffin’s debut with the Owls, a 42-19 home loss to Navy, began with three lightning delays totaling 162 minutes was fitting: Storm clouds seem to follow Kiffin wherever he goes.

FAU savoring its championship moment with Kiffin
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Lane Kiffin is leaving Florida Atlantic. Someday.
The Owls aren't living in fear that it's soon.
Kiffin figures to have many of the things that athletic directors and search committees at Florida State, Central Florida, Arkansas and, yes, even Tennessee would want as they look for home-run coaching hires right now. He's still young. He has charisma. He's a top recruiter. He's learned from some of the game's best like Nick Saban and Pete Carroll.
Lane’s a champ: FAU tops North Texas for C-USA title, 41-17
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Lane Kiffin has won much bigger games. He's got national championships, Southeastern Conference titles, victories before more than 100,000 fans and with millions more watching on television.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Lane Kiffin used the line less than a minute into in his introductory speech when taking over as coach at Florida Atlantic, and has repeated the phrase often since.

‘Who would have thought?’: Kiffin savoring FAU’s success
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Lane Kiffin never definitively said what his expectation was for his first season at Florida Atlantic, though one thing is absolutely certain.
He did not expect this.
FAU is already 7-3, with six wins in a row. And that unexpected twist to this college football season is one that the Owls' visor-wearing, sub-tweeting, swashbuckler of a coach is most definitely savoring.
Virginia, Florida Atlantic reach bowl eligibility
Virginia is bowl eligible for the first time since 2011 after beating Georgia Tech this weekend.
With the victory, the Cavaliers avoided what would have been a stressful stretch run.
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Marshall University faces a Florida Atlantic University team Friday that is happy keeping the football on the ground.
The FAU Owls are one of the top teams nationally in rushing, averaging 296 yards per game.
Normally, when someone thinks of a team with a strong ground game, they think of an offense that is methodical in the way it moves the ball. That couldn't be farther from the truth for the Owls (5-3, 4-0 Conference USA) under head coach Lane Kiffin.
What has made Florida Atlantic such an offensive juggernaut?
Is it first-year coach Lane Kiffin?
Is it star running back Devin Singletary?
Is it the Owls' up-tempo pace that wears down foes?
All those factors play a role in FAU averaging 51.8 points in Conference USA play heading into a matchup against Marshall at 6 p.m. Friday in Boca Raton, Florida.
Lane Kiffin has FAU nearing bowl eligibility _ and more
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — There were 28 voters in the Conference USA preseason football poll, and none picked Florida Atlantic as the team that would win the league's East division.
It would not be accurate to say that no one thought the Owls could grab that title.
When is the last time Marshall faced former NFL head coaches in back-to-back football games?
Yet, that will be the case during the next eight days.
The Herd will host Butch Davis' FIU Panthers at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Edwards Stadium. Then, Marshall will battle Lane Kiffin's Florida Atlantic squad at 6 p.m. Nov. 3, in Boca Raton, Florida.

With NCAA shadow looming over UNC, Butch Davis returns to sidelines in sunny Florida

Instead, an orbiting Tar Heel season will start on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. in Orlando, Fla., where Butch Davis’ first Florida International team will play Central Florida. The game will mark Davis’ first as a head coach since he was fired at UNC in July 2011.
For Briles and others, FAU is a second chance
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Lane Kiffin is the head coach at LSU.
No, not that one.
Kiffin is still the coach at Florida Atlantic, which has a roster — and coaching staff — featuring many people who have encountered more than a few problems along their various circuitous routes to Boca Raton. So on Sunday at the Owls' annual preseason media day, Kiffin revealed that he's given FAU a new moniker.

Lane Kiffin ready for start of his first camp at FAU
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Lane Kiffin went out and spoke to some colleagues earlier this week.
I had to laugh when former Alabama assistant and now head coach at Florida Atlantic Lane Kiffin said, “I’m not really big on humiliating assistant coaches in front of everybody.” Kiffin, of course, was on the receiving end of some salty Nick Saban salvos during his tenure in Tuscaloosa. … And speaking of Saban, he pronounced Alabama’s spring effort “adequate” after the A-Day Game. Saban also admitted he would “never get over” losing the national title game to Clemson. … Still on the subject of Alabama, former linebacker Reuben Foster, who was sent home from the NFL combine, admitted he failed the drug test. … Miami’s Beach Bowl is leaving Miami. My guess is it won’t be called the Miami Beach Bowl next year in Frisco, Texas. … Oklahoma State lost a game last year due to admittedly bad officiating, but still finished 10-3 with a bowl win. On the bowl rings, the Cowboys refused to accept the loss and listed their record as 11-2.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — A person with knowledge of the move says Lane Kiffin is hiring his father Monte Kiffin to be part of the staff at Florida Atlantic.
The person spoke to The Associated Press Friday on condition of anonymity because Monte Kiffin's role has not been completely defined or announced by the university.
The move will give FAU three Kiffins: Lane Kiffin is the new head coach, and his younger brother Chris Kiffin is the Owls' defensive coordinator.
