Treadwell being ‘showcased’ as Vikings search for receivers
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Being a first-round draft pick, Laquon Treadwell has received several opportunities to secure a role in the Minnesota Vikings' offense.
Pats’ Edelman fined $26,739 by NFL for unnecessary roughness
NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has fined Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman $26,739 for an unnecessary roughness penalty in New England's win over Buffalo on Monday night.
Edelman was called for an illegal block after a fair catch signal, but before the ball was touched on a Bills punt in the third quarter.
Giants safety Sean Chandler was fined $20,054 for unnecessary roughness for a horse-collar tackle in the fourth quarter of their 20-13 loss to Washington on Sunday.
Cousins’ comeback falls short, Vikings and Packers tie
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A tie felt odd to Kirk Cousins.
On one hand, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help rally his team from a 20-7 deficit against the Green Bay Packers.
But three missed field goals, including two in overtime, by rookie Daniel Carlson hurt. So did a pass from Cousins that bounced off Laquon Treadwell's hands late in the fourth quarter that was intercepted by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Vikings sign Kendall Wright, who led Bears in receiving
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed wide receiver Kendall Wright, who led the Chicago Bears in receptions and yards last season.
The Vikings announced the addition Friday, putting Wright in the mix behind standouts Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Laquon Treadwell, the team's first-round draft pick in 2016, is the only other wide receiver on the roster with significant NFL playing time on his resume. Treadwell had 20 catches for 200 yards in 2017.
INDIANAPOLIS — After 21 catches in his two NFL seasons, the heat is on Vikings receiver Laquon Treadwell to live up to his first-round draft selection.
Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, General Manager Rick Spielman said he’s hoping to see Treadwell make a “jump” next season. How that happens could be a matter of Treadwell’s own mental state, Spielman said.
The members of the Vikings 2016 draft class have progressed much slower than the 2017 class that General Manager Rick Spielman produced, but they started to show their potential this season.
First-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell grabbed only one reception last season but had 20 catches for 200 yards in 2017 and became a more integral part of the offense.
JACKSON — Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown won the 2017 C Spire Conerly Trophy Tuesday night as Mississippi’s most outstanding college football player this season. Now in its 22nd year, the C Spire Conerly Trophy is named after the late Charlie Conerly — the only football inductee in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame who was an All-American at a Mississippi university, an NFL rookie of the year and NFL All-Pro member and quarterbacked a team to a world championship. Brown, a sophomore from...
Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown wins Conerly Trophy
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi receiver A.J. Brown is well aware of the school's former star receiver Laquon Treadwell. One reason is because there's a picture on the wall of the program's practice facility that displays some of Treadwell's achievements.
Brown took notice.
"Every day in the summer I'd say, 'I'm sorry, but you're coming down," Brown said with a grin. "It made me work a lot harder."
A little rest has proved beneficial for Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Mike Zimmer’s message seems to finally have gotten through to Laquon Treadwell.
The Vikings coach has told the second-year receiver he can’t work out so hard all the time because recovery is important in the NFL. Zimmer said that about four weeks ago, it sunk in.
“He’s doing good,” Zimmer said Thursday. “I think he’s understanding now about the length of the season and things you got to do to take care of your body.”
Vikings’ Laquon Treadwell or Redskins’ Josh Doctson? Jury still out on NFL careers of 2016 first-round picks
The Vikings went into the 2016 draft intent on finding a big receiver they could install as a go-to target for Teddy Bridgewater. Their pre-draft pursuit centered on two players: TCUs Josh Doctson and Mississippis Laquon Treadwell.

Vikings: Laquon Treadwell hoping for second chance to make first impression
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Patience is the virtue that illuminated hard truths Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has accepted barely two seasons into his NFL career.
The 2016 first-round draft choice is answering for unfulfilled promise by pouring time and energy into becoming a better professional while maximizing a new opportunity to prove his viability on a team teeming with playmaking receivers.
Vikings WR Treadwell back at practice after hamstring injury
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has returned to practice following a two-week absence caused by a hamstring injury.
Treadwell took his first turns in full-team drills on Tuesday since July 31, when he was last seen engaging in a scuffle with safety Antone Exum. Treadwell said he hopes to be able to play with the Vikings in their exhibition game at Seattle on Friday, but precaution could top eagerness in this case.
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has a strained leg muscle that's been sidelining him this week.
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — One catch.
That was the jarringly limited extent of Laquon Treadwell's production on the field last season for the Minnesota Vikings. Even with the rookie learning curve factored in, and his struggle to stay healthy, this was hardly an outcome befitting a first-round draft pick.
Treadwell's nonexistence in the passing attack was minimized by the excellence of Stefon Diggs, the emergence of Adam Thielen and the steadiness of tight end Kyle Rudolph.
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The lack of production from the Minnesota Vikings' rookie class as one of many factors that contributed to the team's disappointing 8-8 finish last season.
In hopes of helping this year's class of first-year players make more of an impact in the upcoming season, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer decided to call them in early for the start of training camp. The rookies reported with select veterans Sunday, four days before the full team is required to report.

Who will have more at stake this fall for the Minnesota Vikings — head coach Mike Zimmer or GM Rick Spielman?
That's a tough call, so let's make it simple. If things go south for the Purple, both will likely be elsewhere at this time next year.
Vikings promote former Gophers WR Fruechte
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have added wide receiver Isaac Fruechte (FRIHK-tee) to the active roster for his NFL debut in the season finale, after placing safety Andrew Sendejo on injured reserve.
The move was made Saturday. The Vikings (7-8) host Chicago (3-12) on Sunday. Sendejo started 14 of the first 15 games before hurting his knee.
Vikings’ Adrian Peterson listed out for Bears game
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Adrian Peterson is listed as out for the season finale against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, leaving open the possibility the star running back has played his final game for the Minnesota Vikings.
Sherels out, Joseph questionable for Vikings
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings punt returner Marcus Sherels will not play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday because of an ankle injury.
The Vikings say defensive tackle Linval Joseph is questionable with an injured shoulder, as is receiver Laquon Treadwell with a hamstring strain, and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn with an injured ankle.
Panthers RB Artis-Payne expected to start with Stewart out
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to start at running back for the Carolina Panthers against the Minnesota Vikings because Jonathan Stewart is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Coach Ron Rivera said Friday Artis-Payne would start unless the Panthers opened the game in a special formation that includes Fozzy Whittaker. Artis-Payne and Whittaker will split carries.
Return of safety Tony Conner big for No. 11 Mississippi
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Of the four main players from Mississippi's talented 2013 recruiting class, three of them are now millionaires.
Then there's safety Tony Conner.
He'd likely be in the NFL right now — along with defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, receiver Laquon Treadwell and offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil — if it hadn't been for a major knee injury against Alabama last season that caused him to miss more than half of his junior year.
Vikings receiver and first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell made some headlines this week in training camp when the team scrimmaged against the Bengals. Treadwell got to play opposite Adam Pacman Jones, one of the better cornerbacks over the past decade in the NFL.
Treadwell told the reporters that I went up to Pacman and said, Dont take it easy on me.andthinsp; Jones said he wouldnt, and Treadwell didnt catch a pass in that particular matchup.
Will Teddy Bridgewater live up to his nickname this season?
That is the question all Vikings fans want answered about Minnesota quarterback “Touchdown Teddy.’’
I say yes for a number of reasons.
The addition of Laquon Treadwell is one obvious reason. The Vikings top draft pick from Ole Miss can run a 4.6-second 40-yard dash and his 6-foot, 2-inch frame will be an amazing target for Bridgewater down the field. Hopefully he can also help out Teddy as...
Vikings first-round pick Laquon Treadwell is gaining confidence by the day
MANKATO One of the Vikings top reinforcements looks at the world upside down as he catches a series of mechanically-hurled footballs behind his legs, helmet nestled between them.
Vikings gofers, handlers and autograph seekers are at Laquon Treadwells whim until he finishes the lengthy ritual. Thirty-eight minutes after most teammates hit the showers, his nearly three-hour afternoon practice ends with one Vikings employee vowing to save future interviews for mornings when...
1. Who will start on the offensive line?
The wide-open competition along the line figures to be the most heated of the summer. Matt Kalil and Alex Boone are penciled in as starters on the left side. But there is uncertainty at center, right guard and right tackle. John Sullivan, who has returned to the field after two back surgeries in 2015, will try to reclaim the center job from Joe Berger. Brandon Fusco and Mike Harris will compete at right guard. And Andre Smith is the...
