SEATTLE (AP) — Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott again defended the conference's handling of its officiating procedures on Saturday after a report cited text messages from Washington State coach Mike Leach questioning the conference's decisions during the Cougars loss to Southern California last month.
Florida hires Scott as tight ends coach to replace Seider
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida has hired Larry Scott as tight ends coach, filling an opening created by the departure of Ju'Juan Seider.
Seider left the Gators this week to become running backs coach at Penn State. Seider spent one year coaching running backs at Florida.
New coach Dan Mullen shifted Seider to tight ends coach after his arrival.
Ex-Miami coaches Scott, Shannon match wits in SEC showdown
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Randy Shannon and Larry Scott have history. Both are former Miami coaches, and Shannon was the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator when Scott's brother played there.
Now, Scott is in his first year as the Vols' offensive coordinator while Shannon enters his third season as the Gators; defensive coordinator.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have released long snapper Matt Overton and safety Duke Williams while putting eight other players on waivers.
Overton made the team as a long shot undrafted free agent in 2012 and wound up playing in the 2013 Pro Bowl. He also became a fixture in the Indianapolis community.
Williams signed with the Colts in December and has played in 58 NFL games.
Tennessee hires Kevin Beard as wide receivers coach
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has hired Kevin Beard as its wide receivers coach and Tony Sorrentino as an offensive quality control assistant.
Beard's arrival reunites him with Tennessee offensive coordinator Larry Scott, as they previously worked together at Miami. Beard coached receivers at Miami in 2015, when Scott served as the Hurricanes' interim head coach for the final six games of the season.
Chicago Bears hire Azzanni as receivers coach
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have hired University of Tennessee receivers coach and passing game coordinator Zach Azzanni as their receivers coach.
Tennessee announced Wednesday that Azzanni accepted the job on John Fox's staff in Chicago.
Azzanni had been Tennessee's wide receivers coach for the last four seasons. He previously worked at Bowling Green (2001-06), Central Michigan (2007-09), Florida (2010), Western Kentucky (2011) and Wisconsin (2012).
