KENT, Ohio (AP) — Jaylin Walker scored 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Kent State used a 50-point second half to beat Northern Illinois 78-68 on Saturday.
Antonio Williams scored 13 points with five assists for the Golden Flashes (14-4, 3-2 Mid-American Conference) and Akiean Frederick scored 12. Kent State won its second straight and now has tallied six wins in its last eight contests.

James scores 20, NIU beats Ohio in overtime MAC opener
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Lacey James scored 20 points, including the tiebreaking free throws in overtime, and Northern Illinois beat Ohio 72-66 on Saturday in a Mid-American Conference opener.
James was fouled on a putback — he finished with 14 rebounds — and made two free throws for a 68-66 lead and added two more with 48 seconds left. He missed a pair seconds later but the Huskies retained possession and Levi Bradley added the final points at the line.
German scores 30; Northern Illinois rolls Oral Roberts 87-66
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Eugene German scored 30 points and Northern Illinois rolled to an 87-66 victory over Oral Roberts on Friday in an Oakland Hoops Challenge opener.
German was 11 of 21 from the field and made five 3-pointers. Levi Bradley added 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for Northern Illinois (3-1).
Kevin Obanor had 16 points to lead Oral Roberts (2-5). D.J. Weaver scored 14 points and Kaelen Malone 12.
KENT, Ohio (AP) — Kevin Zabo had 19 points, including a layup as time expired, and Jalen Avery scored eight of his 13 points in the final seven-plus minutes to help Kent State slip past Northern Illinois 61-59 on Monday night in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Marin Maric scored 15 points, Laytwan Porter hit a clutch 3-pointer and Aaric Armstead blocked a final Toledo shot as Northern Illinois hung on for a 74-72 win in a meeting of the top two Mid-American Conference West Division teams on Saturday.
