Thorns beat Reign 2-1 to advance to title NWSL title game
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan scored and the Portland Thorns advanced to the National Women's Soccer League championship game with a 2-1 semifinal victory over the Seattle Reign on Saturday.
The defending NWSL champion Thorns (13-6-6) will play the winner of the other semifinal between the Chicago Red Stars and the North Carolina Courage for the title next Saturday at Portland's Providence Park.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Had Lindsey Horan not become a soccer player, she suggests she might have been a tennis player.
One problem: She can't really play tennis.
"I'm absolutely awful," she laughed. "So bad."
So it's a good thing Horan went with soccer. Currently in the final stretch of her season with the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League, she's also about to embark on qualifying with the U.S. national team for next summer's World Cup in France.

CHICAGO (AP) — Midfielder Morgan Brian and defender Becky Sauerbrunn will miss the U.S. women's soccer training camp ahead of a Jan. 21 exhibition against Denmark at San Diego.
Brian will remain with Lyon in France following nagging injuries, the U.S. Soccer Federation said Thursday. Sauerbrunn has a stress reaction in her left foot that necessitates several weeks of rest.
Twenty-four players are attending the training camp in the Los Angeles area.
Horan’s goal leads Thorns over Courage 1-0 for NWSL title
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Lindsey Horan scored in the 50th minute, and the Portland Thorns beat the North Carolina Courage 1-0 on Saturday for the National Women's Soccer League championship.
It is Portland's second title . The Thorns also won the NWSL's inaugural championship in 2013.
Coach Ellis names US roster for September friendlies
Midfielder Tobin Heath, who has been rehabbing from a back injury, was named to the 22-player roster for the U.S. national team in advance of two exhibition matches against New Zealand.
Heath has not played for the United State since March because of the injury. She was recently cleared to play with her National Women's Soccer League team, the Portland Thorns.
Heath joins two other players from the Thorns, Allie Long and Lindsey Horan, on the U.S. roster announced by coach Jill Ellis on Thursday.
