CODY, Wyo. (AP) — Wildlife managers in Wyoming are investigating the shooting of a grizzly bear by a hunting guide as the animals become more active searching for food before the harsh winter sets in and as more bears are roaming the landscape.
The bear was shot Tuesday in the upper South Fork of the Shoshone River after charging three guides and their horses, according to Park County commissioner and outfitter Lee Livingston.

Grizzly bear bites hunter’s hand as he deploys bear spray
LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) — A hunter in Montana was attacked by a grizzly bear while tracking an elk he shot, leaving him with injuries to his hand.
Authorities say the man was tracking the elk on Saturday in the Rock Creek-Tom Miner area after shooting it the day prior. He reported getting separated from his hunting party before the bear charged him from about 30 yards (27 meters) away and knocked it him to the ground.
12-year-old Montana girl dies in all-terrain vehicle crash
LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) — A 12-year-old Montana girl died in a weekend all-terrain vehicle crash west of Livingston.
Park County officials say Neveah Kunneman died Sunday after an ATV carrying Neveah and two younger children crashed on a dirt road. Sheriff Scott Hamilton says a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy were not seriously injured. The boy walked about a half mile (800 meters) for help.
Coroner Al Jenkins says Neveah died at the scene of the crash.

LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) — Officials in south-central Montana say a Park County jail inmate who was found unconscious in his cell after apparently hanging himself with a piece of jail clothing has died.
Sheriff Scott Hamilton tells the Livingston Enterprise (bit.ly/2fL8SLo) that 36-year-old Joseph Anthony Kuban of Bozeman was found in his cell on Aug. 10. He was taken to the hospital in Livingston and later to Billings Clinic where he died Tuesday afternoon.
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Cleanup of spilled solvents and diesel fuel at the Livingston rail yard has progressed to the point that state and federal regulators no longer believe it needs to be considered for the Superfund National Priorities List.
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency decided last year that BSNF Railway's cleanup was progressing adequately under state DEQ supervision. The withdrawal was published in the Federal Register last week.
Fire damages press at Livingston newspaper
LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of setting a fire in the press room at The Livingston Enterprise, causing the Monday and Tuesday editions to be printed by sister papers owned by Yellowstone Newspapers.
The boy was arrested early Saturday after police found him near the newspaper building shortly after the fire was reported. He faces arson and burglary charges.
