Avalanche danger elevated in western Colorado
DENVER (AP) — The avalanche danger is elevated in western Colorado because of fresh, heavy snow and strong winds.
The risk is highest Monday in the backcountry areas near Steamboat Springs, Gunnison, Aspen and Grand Mesa. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says travel isn't recommended in or below avalanche terrain in those regions.
The risk is ranked as considerable in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, where a skier died in an avalanche on Saturday.

Anonymous donor pays off layaway at Colorado Walmart
LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Christmas came early for some shoppers at a Colorado Walmart.
KUSA-TV reports Walmart Inc. officials say an anonymous donor paid off all the layaway items at the Longmont store on East Ken Pratt Boulevard.
A company spokesperson says the donation totaled nearly $45,000.
District attorney: Officers justified in shooting suspect
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Officials in Boulder County have ruled two police officers were justified in fatally shooting an armed suspect outside a theater in Longmont, but they aren't releasing the officers' names due to threats made by friends of the suspect.

11-year-olds suspected of setting fire near Longmont lake
LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Colorado authorities suspect three 11-year-old boys of starting a brush fire near a lake near Longmont.
The fire was reported about 4:15 p.m. Sunday in an area containing cattails on the east side of McIntosh Lake.
The fire was contained within about an hour and burned about 1.5 acres. No one was hurt.
