Panthers DT Kawann Short will play vs. Saints
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers defensive tackle Kawaan Short is active and will play against the Saints on Monday night despite being listed as doubtful with a calf injury.
Short was upgraded to questionable on Sunday after making progress in his rehab.
Carolina kicker Graham Gano will miss his second straight game with a knee injury, meaning Chandler Catanzaro will again handle kicking duties.
Panthers place LT Kalil on IR; out at least 8 games
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers placed Matt Kalil on injured reserve Sunday because of a knee injury, meaning the team's starting left tackle will miss at least eight games.
Kalil hasn't played since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Aug. 21. Taylor Moton is expected to start at left tackle on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Newly acquired TE Martellus Bennett active for New England
DENVER (AP) — Newly acquired tight end Martellus Bennett is active for the New England Patriots' game at Denver on Sunday night despite a shoulder injury that led to his release from Green Bay.
The Patriots claimed Bennett on Thursday after he was waived by the Packers. The team cited a "failure to disclose a physical condition" as the reason for the move. Bennett disputed that notion.
Taylor, Turner, Doss inactive for Broncos against Chargers
DENVER (AP) — The Denver Broncos deactivated wide receiver Jordan Taylor, guard Billy Turner and cornerback Lorenzo Doss in addition to their four injured players for their game against the San Diego Chargers.
Also out for Denver are: quarterback Paxton Lynch (shoulder), running back Devontae Booker (wrist) and defensive ends Zach Kerr (knee) and Jared Crick (back).
Before Monday night's game, the Broncos added defensive tackle Tyrique Jarrett and waived Kyle Peko.
Denver’s defenders say the QB competition helps them, too.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Lorenzo Doss began and ended the Denver Broncos' first padded practice Sunday with pick-6s, snaring a Paxton Lynch pass to start things off and snatching Trevor Siemian's toss to end it.
"I always tell him he's a four-leaf clover," defensive coordinator Joe Woods said of the third-year cornerback with the penchant for being around the football.
Peters active for Chiefs-Broncos but 3 KC starters out
DENVER (AP) — Cornerback Marcus Peters is active for Kansas City's game at Denver on Sunday night, but fellow Chiefs starters Dee Ford, Jaye Howard and Jeremy Maclin are out.
Peters is dealing with a hip injury that limited him in practice during the week. Howard also has a hip injury, Ford a strained hamstring and Maclin a pulled groin.
Other Chiefs inactives: quarterback Tyler Bray, cornerback Steen Nelson, tight end Ross Travis and O-lineman Mike Person.
Broncos promote CB Taurean Nixon from practice squad
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — With Aqib Talib and Kayvon Webster both ruled out for Denver's Sunday night showdown at Oakland, the Broncos promoted cornerback Taurean Nixon from their practice squad Saturday.
To make room, they released veteran tight end John Phillips.
Talib had a cortisone injection in his lower back this week and will miss his second straight game when the Broncos (6-2) visit the Raiders (6-2) .
Broncos send Aqib Talib for second opinion on back
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos sent star cornerback Aqib Talib to California on Thursday to seek a second opinion about his ailing lower back. Coach Gary Kubiak said he "got good vibes ... from the visit."
Talib missed the Broncos' 27-19 win over San Diego on Sunday after his back stiffened up during the team's Saturday walkthrough.
Doss makes most of his chance in Denver’s ‘No Fly Zone’
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Meet Lorenzo Doss, the newest member of the "No Fly Zone."
The speedy second-year cornerback has been buried deep in Denver's depth chart. But the fifth-round draft pick out of Tulane in 2015 had a terrific training camp and came up huge against San Diego on Sunday when Aqib Talib and Kayvon Webster were injured.
"He's been making plays all year," safety Darian Stewart said. "Doss is a playmaker, and that's what people don't know about him."
Latimer inactive for Broncos as he recovers from concussion
DENVER (AP) — Broncos wide receiver Cody Latimer was inactive Monday night against Houston as he recovers from a concussion.
The third-year player out of Indiana was hurt on Oct. 13 in San Diego. Latimer has three catches for 22 yards this season.
Left tackle Russell Okung was in the starting lineup after leaving the game in San Diego in an ambulance due to a concussion.
Ware misses 4th straight game as Broncos face Chargers
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Denver outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware will miss his fourth straight game due to a broken right arm when the Broncos play the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night.
Also inactive for the Broncos are quarterback Austin Davis, safety Justin Simmons, cornerback Lorenzo Doss, guard Connor McGovern, outside linebacker Ty Sambrailo and tight end Jeff Heuerman.
Broncos will go with 2 QBs with zero pro passes
DENVER (AP) — By selecting recently acquired veteran Austin Davis as their third quarterback Thursday night, the Denver Broncos headed into the NFL kickoff against the Carolina Panthers with two QBs who had zero pass attempts as a pro.
Trevor Siemian, whose only snap as a rookie last season, was a kneel-down, won the starting job last month and rookie Paxton Lynch is his backup.
