A’s bolster deep bullpen by acquiring Twins closer Rodney
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have acquired closer Fernando Rodney from the Minnesota Twins.
The A's sent minor league right-hander Dakota Chalmers to Minnesota on Thursday to complete the deal that adds more depth to Oakland's stellar bullpen.

Casilla is 42-31 with 144 career saves in 15 seasons, but has been up and down with the A's this year while having control issues. Used primarily in middle relief, the right-hander has a 3.16 ERA despite 20 walks and four hit batters in 31 1/3 innings. He turns 38 next week,
Success on the road lifts A’s into contention
The Oakland Athletics have played their way into contention by beating up on teams that are far from it.
Oakland enters the All-Star break having won 21 of its last 27, and the A's are only three games behind the second wild card. At 55-42, manager Bob Melvin's Athletics would have the second-best record in the National League if they were in it. Instead, they play in the AL West, where their impressive mark still leaves them eight games behind division-leading Houston.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Adrian Beltre and the Texas Rangers went deep against the A's.
Beltre hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the eighth, and the Rangers scored all of their runs on a season-high five long balls in a 7-4 win over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.
"I think our offense is capable to do this more often," Beltre said.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Andrew Triggs found his rhythm and control, leading to his best outing of the season.
The 29-year-old right-hander allowed two hits over seven innings, Khris Davis and Matt Olson drove in runs and the Oakland Athletics rallied to beat Baltimore 2-1 Sunday to extend the Orioles' losing streak to six games.
"They're down, but they have an explosive offense and a great manager," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "You just hope they stay down while they're here."
