MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Veteran Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus beat top-seeded Frenchman Lucas Pouille 7-6 (2), 6-7 (3), 6-4 on Thursday to reach the Open Sud de France quarterfinals.
Baghdatis, a 2006 Australian Open finalist, served for the match at 5-3 in the second set. But Pouille, who lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Novak Djokovic at this year's Australian Open, fought back to take it into a third set.

PARIS (AP) — The French tennis federation says Sebastien Grosjean has been appointed as the country's Davis Cup captain.
Grosjean takes over from Yannick Noah after Amelie Mauresmo pulled out to focus on her new coaching job with French player Lucas Pouille.
The French federation says Grosjean will also be in charge of the men's team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 40-year-old Grosjean won four titles, including the 2001 Paris Masters, before retiring in 2010.

PARIS (AP) — Amelie Mauresmo won't be captaining France's Davis Cup team after all because the two-time major winner is going back to coaching to help Lucas Pouille.
