Niederreiter leads Carolina past Edmonton, 3-1
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Nino Niederreiter kept scoring goals for his new team. Curtis McElhinney kept up his mastery of the Edmonton Oilers.
They pushed the Carolina Hurricanes closer to playoff position.
Niederreiter scored two goals, McElhinney stopped the final 40 shots he faced, and the Hurricanes beat the Oilers 3-1 on Friday night.
"Every single game matters a lot," Niederreiter said, "so we've got to make sure we even win the close ones."
Niederreiter, Wallmark score lead Hurricanes past Oilers 7-4
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — It didn't take long for Nino Niederreiter to fit in with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Niederreiter and Lucas Wallmark each scored twice to lead the Hurricanes to a 7-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.
Acquired from Minnesota on Friday, Niederreiter got his first goals with Carolina.
Aho leads Hurricanes past Predators 6-3
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Sebastian Aho and the Carolina Hurricanes got into a groove after Micheal Ferland tangled with Austin Watson.
Aho had three goals and an assist to help Carolina beat the Nashville Predators 6-3 on Sunday.
The Hurricanes won for the seventh time in eight games. There was no score when Ferland fought Watson 8:19 into the first period.
"That set the tone," Aho said. "We were all fired up after that."
McElhinney stops 22 shots, Hurricanes handle Flyers 3-1
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes found their offense against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Limited to a goal in four of their last five games and coming off a shutout loss on the weekend, the Hurricanes scratched out a 3-1 win over Philadelphia on Monday night for their second victory in six games.
Lucas Wallmark, Jordan Martinook and Andrei Svechnikov scored and goalie Curtis McElhinney stopped 22 shots in the win.
Meier gives Sharks needed boost in 5-1 win over Hurricanes
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Timo Meier's return to San Jose's lineup gave the Sharks just the boost they needed after a rough road trip.
Meier had a goal and two assists in his first game back from an injury, Martin Jones made 39 saves and the Sharks responded to a shuffle of duties for their assistant coaches by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 on Wednesday night.
Martinook’s hat trick leads Hurricanes past Panthers 4-1
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Jordan Martinook doesn't think it's his job to score goals for the Carolina Hurricanes.
"I'm just a guy that goes and works hard and if they come, they come," Martinook said.
The goals came in bunches for Martinook on Friday night as the Hurricanes' third-line winger recorded his first hat trick in a 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to deals with forwards Lucas Wallmark and Greg McKegg.
The deal with Wallmark is a two-year contract. It's a two-way deal for the 2018-19 season paying $650,000 at the NHL level or $70,000 at the American Hockey League level with a $100,000 guarantee. The deal will pay $700,000 for 2019-20.
Carolina activates Lee Stempniak from injured reserve
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have activated forward Lee Stempniak from injured reserve.
General manager Ron Francis also said Monday that center Lucas Wallmark was reassigned to the team's AHL affiliate in Charlotte.
The 34-year-old Stempniak has not played for Carolina this season but had 16 goals and 24 assists for the Hurricanes last season.
Scottie Upshall breaks tie, Blue beat Hurricanes 3-2
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Scottie Upshall fit in quite nicely when he was moved to the top line with Vladimir Tarasenko and Brayden Schenn at the start of the third period.
Upshall broke a tie midway through the third and the St. Louis Blues held off the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Saturday night. Upshall took a pass from Brayden Schenn and beat goalie Scott Darling between the legs for his sixth goal of the season and first in 11 games.
Bickell returns to NHL 5 months after MS diagnosis
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Bryan Bickell is back in the NHL five months after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
The Carolina Hurricanes recalled Bickell and forward Andrew Poturalski from their AHL affiliate in Charlotte on Monday, one day before they play at Minnesota.
