WKU gets 3rd win of season, beats Louisiana Tech 30-15
RUSTON, La. (AP) — D'Andre Ferby scored a pair of touchdowns and Western Kentucky jumped on Louisiana Tech early and made it hold up for a 30-15 win on Saturday.
Western Kentucky (3-9, 2-6 Conference USA) took the opening drive 87 yards in 11 plays and scored on Lucky Jackson's 18-yard touchdown run. On the Bulldogs' ensuing drive, Devon Key intercepted J'Mar Smith on the first play and the Hilltoppers had the ball at Louisiana Tech's 33.
Western Kentucky picks off 5 UTEP passes in 40-16 rout
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Steven Duncan threw for two touchdowns and D'Andre Ferby ran for two more as Western Kentucky turned five first-half interceptions into a 40-0 lead and coasted past UTEP, 40-16 on Saturday night.
The Hilltoppers picked up their first Conference USA victory this season. They play at Louisiana Tech in the season finale Saturday.
WKU beats Middle Tennessee with game-winning FG in 3 OT
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Ryan Nuss kicked a 37-yarder in the third overtime, and Western Kentucky rallied for a wild 41-38 victory over Middle Tennessee on Friday night.
Mike White threw for 485 yards and five touchdowns for Western Kentucky (6-5, 4-3 Conference USA). Lucky Jackson, Kylen Towner, and Nacarius Fant each had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown catch. Fant had a game-high 14 receptions.
Tavares Thomas ran for two touchdowns for Middle Tennessee (5-6, 3-4).
W. Kentucky resumes rivalry taking down E. Kentucky 31-17
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Mike Sanford's head coaching debut was anything but the razzle dazzle style that has become the norm at Western Kentucky.
Save for a 66-yard touchdown strike from Mike White to Lucky Jackson, the Hilltoppers' offense was rather conservative. Sanford, who was Notre Dame's offensive coordinator last season, actually wanted it that way.
There's still a lot more to show in Western Kentucky's playbook.
