MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette guard Markus Howard usually doesn't leave the gym in the offseason until he has hit at least 300 3-point shots.
No reason to change his routine now after leading the country with 54 percent shooting from 3-point range last season as a freshman.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jajuan Johnson scored 20 points and Marquette beat Creighton 91-83 in a regular season finale for both teams Saturday.
The win positions the Golden Eagles (19-11, 10-8) as the No. 4 seed in the Big East Conference Tournament. Creighton enters as the No. 6 seed.
Markus Howard added 18 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Luke Fischer had 13 points, Katin Reinhardt had 12 and Sam Hauser had 11 points and seven boards.
Marquette rides big 1st half to 102-94 upset of Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marquette turned to its three seniors to quiet Creighton's home crowd on an emotional afternoon when the seventh-ranked Bluejays were playing their first full game without their star Maurice Watson Jr.
Katin Reinhardt scored 17 of his season-high 21 points in the first half to help the Golden Eagles get out to a big lead, and Luke Fischer and Jajuan Johnson added 18 apiece as they picked up their first Big East road win with a 102-94 upset Saturday.
Marquette holds on for 89-86 win over Seton Hall
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Markus Howard had 22 points and Katin Reinhardt made four free throws in the final 29 seconds of overtime to help Marquette beat Seton Hall 89-86 on Wednesday night.
The Golden Eagles (11-5, 2-2 Big East) took the lead for good at 79-78 on Howard's pair of free throws with 3:57 left in overtime. The Pirates (12-4, 2-2) hung close and could have forced another overtime on Myles Powell's 3-point attempt that missed long at the buzzer.
Howard, Johnson lead Marquette past Georgetown, 76-66
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Markus Howard had career highs with five 3-pointers and 23 points, Jajuan Johnson added 20 with five assists and four steals on Wednesday night and Marquette beat Georgetown 76-77 in the Big East Conference opener for both teams.
Andrew Rowsey added 11 points and Luke Fischer scored eight with 10 rebounds.
Cheatham’s 19 paces Marquette past SIU-Edwardsville 89-56
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Haanif Cheatham scored 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting and led five players in double figures as Marquette defeated SIU-Edwardsville 89-56 on Wednesday night in the first meeting between the schools.
Luke Fischer added 15 points, Jajuan Johnson 14, while Sam Hauser and Duane Wilson scored 11 each for the Golden Eagles, who shot 53 percent from the floor, making 32 of 60 field goals. Marquette forced 22 turnovers and had 17 assists, Johnson leading with five.
Rowsey’s 22 points spark Marquette by St. Francis 78-65
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Andrew Rowsey hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, Jaquan Johnson had a double-double, and Marquette pulled away from St. Francis 78-65 on Monday night, exactly 60 years since their last meeting in 1956.
Haanif Cheatham contributed 18 points for the Golden Eagles (8-3). Johnson, Sam Hauser and Luke Fischer had 11 points apiece with Johnson grabbing 11 rebounds and delivering six assists, both career-highs.
Marquette leads by 38 at half, beats Western Carolina 90-44
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Andrew Rowsey had 21 points, Markus Howard added 17 and Marquette had a 38-point halftime lead on its way to a 90-44 win over Western Carolina on Wednesday night.
Rowsey and Howard each hit four 3-pointers and the Golden Eagles (5-2) were 13 of 27 from the arc. Luke Fischer added 15 points and Jajuan Johnson scored 13.
Fischer leads Marquette to 101-79 win over Houston Baptist
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Luke Fischer took control early and finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds as he led Marquette to a dominating 101-79 win over Houston Baptist on Saturday night.
Fischer needed just 11 minutes to score 17 points and grab eight rebounds in the first period as Marquette jumped out to a 56-33 halftime advantage. Fischer finished the game making 9 of 10 from the floor and picked up five offensive rebounds.
Cheatham scores 20, Marquette beats IUPUI 104-79
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Haanif Cheatham scored 20 points and Marquette shot 60 percent from the floor in the first half to beat IUPUI 104-79 Tuesday night to close out the 2K Classic.
The Golden Eagles last topped 100 points in its 101-93 win at St. John's on March 9.
Katin Reinhardt scored 16 and made a career-high eight free throws. Marquette rolled to a 57-37 halftime advantage, making 16 of 17 free throws (94 percent) in the first half.
Johnson’s 21 points lead Marquette past Vanderbilt 95-71
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Jajuan Johnson had 21 points, Luke Fischer scored 18 and Marquette spoiled Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew's debut with a 95-71 victory in the opening game of the Veterans Classic at the Navy Academy on Friday night.
Haanif Cheatham added 15 points and Sam Hauser finished with 14 points for the Golden Eagles, who shot 39 of 74 (53 percent) from the field.
