CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has hired Scott Boone and Stacy Searels as new coach Mack Brown completed his coaching staff.
The school announced hirings Thursday. Boone will be the special teams coordinator and coach outside linebackers, while Searels will coach the offensive line. Brown is also retaining running backs coach Robert Gillespie from former coach Larry Fedora's staff.

Howell committed to the Seminoles in the spring, but announced he will instead play for the Tar Heels. Howell is a four-star prospect ranked by 247sports as the nation's No. 3 pro-style quarterback and No. 5 quarterback overall.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has hired Phil Longo, Lonnie Galloway and Brandon Jones for the staff of new coach Mack Brown.
The school announced the hirings Tuesday.
Longo will serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after two seasons at Ole Miss, where he was coordinator and helped the Rebels rank in the top 20 in total offense each year.
UNC hires Army’s Bateman as co-defensive coordinator
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has hired Army's Jay Bateman to serve as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
The school announced the move Sunday.
Bateman spent the past five seasons at Army, with this year's team ranking ninth in total defense by allowing 293.5 yards per game. Bateman joins the staff of new coach Mack Brown, who previously named Tommy Thigpen as the other co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina receiver Anthony Ratliff-Williams says he's skipping his final season to pursue an NFL career.
The junior tweeted his decision Tuesday, saying he is declaring for next spring's draft after meeting with his family.
Ratliff-Williams was the Tar Heels' top big-play threat with his versatility. He had 42 catches for a team-best 689 yards and two touchdowns this season.
UNC hires Bly, Brewster, Cross; retains Thigpen on staff
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — New North Carolina coach Mack Brown is adding former Tar Heels and NFL cornerback Dre' Bly, Tim Brewster and Tim Cross to his staff.
The school announced the hirings Friday, along with the decision to retain Tommy Thigpen from former coach Larry Fedora's staff.
Bly was an All-American under Brown in the 1990s before an 11-year NFL career. He'll coach cornerbacks.

Beamer, Brown head College Football Hall of Fame class
ATLANTA (AP) — Coaches Frank Beamer and Mack Brown were selected Monday for the College Football Hall of Fame, part of a class of 13 that includes former players Ed Reed and Calvin Johnson.
Brown won 244 games in a 30-year head coaching career at four schools that featured 16 seasons and a national championship at Texas.

Redskins put linebacker Mason Foster on injured reserve
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins will be without center Spencer Long against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and without linebacker Mason Foster for longer than that.
Long has a knee injury, and Foster is set to have surgery on his right shoulder. On Saturday, the Redskins placed Foster on injured reserve and waived running back Mack Brown, signing offensive linemen Orlando Franklin and Arie Kouandjio.
Pilot Flying J founder Haslam receives Pat Summitt Award
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Pilot Flying J founder Jim Haslam is the latest recipient of the Pat Summitt Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame hands out the award each year to an individual it deems as someone who best exemplifies the character of Summitt, the former Tennessee women's basketball coach who died in June 2016. Previous recipients included former Texas football coach Mack Brown and former Southeastern Conference commissioner Roy Kramer.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Tight end Jordan Reed, running back Rob Kelley and linebacker Mason Foster won't play for the Washington Redskins in their Sunday night game against the Oakland Raiders.
Reed has been limited at practice all week with a chest/rib injury, Kelley with a rib injury and Foster with a shoulder injury. Each player was listed as questionable after injuries suffered last week at the Los Angeles Rams.
