Belmont loses forward Mack Mercer to health issues
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Senior forward Mack Mercer has left Belmont's team for health reasons.
Belmont coach Rick Byrd announced Mercer's departure Monday. Byrd said the team supported Mercer's decision and added that "while this is not the outcome any of us would have hoped for, we will continue to encourage Mack in his educational and professional pursuits."
McClain, Windler help Belmont run streak to 8 83-73
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Kevin McClain scored 25 points, Dylan Windler had a double-double and Belmont defeated Morehead State 83-73 on Saturday for its eighth straight victory.
Windler had 13 points and 14 rebounds, which matched his career high, for the Bruins (19-6, 11-1 Ohio Valley Conference). Tyler Hadden added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, and Mack Mercer and Nick Hopkins added 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench.
Belmont beats Austin Peay 83-59 on Windler’s career night
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Dylan Windler set career highs with 31 points and seven 3-pointers, and Belmont ran away in the second half to beat Austin Peay 83-59 on Saturday for its 10th win in 11 games.
Kevin McClain and Nick Hopkins scored 12 points apiece and Amanze Egekeze added 11 for the Bruins (15-6, 7-1 Ohio Valley Conference), who shot 14 of 28 from 3 (50 percent) and 31 of 55 overall (56.4 percent). Windler grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists.
Belmont rallies past Murray State, 79-72, claims 1st in OVC
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Austin Luke and Dylan Windler each scored 21 points and Belmont used 14 3s to pull away from Murray State in the second half of their Ohio Valley Conference battle Thursday night to claim sole possession of first place.
The Bruins, Racers and Austin Peay were all tied at 5-1 atop the conference going into Thursday's action. The Governors lost to Tennessee State.
Egekeze, Windler lead Belmont past Green Bay 86-75
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Amanze Egekeze scored 21 points and Dylan Windler added 20 and led his team with 10 rebounds as Belmont snapped a three-game slide, beating Green Bay 86-75 on Saturday.
It was Windler's seventh double-double this season. He was 7 of 14 from the field including six 3-pointers for the Bruins (5-4). Mack Mercer scored 19 points off the bench and Kevin McClain had 11 points and five assists.
