In the full count, Igor Dodon won 52.2 percent of the vote. Maia Sandu, who ran on an anti-corruption ticket, had 47.8 percent. Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Dodon to visit Moscow and said he looked forward to developing bilateral relations.

CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — Moldova's presidential election will go to a runoff between a pro-Russian figure and a pro-European candidate who both tapped into widespread anger about corruption.
With almost all ballots counted Monday, Igor Dodon won 48.3 percent, falling short of the majority of votes needed for outright victory in the first round. In the Nov. 13 runoff, he will face pro-European rival Maia Sandu who scored 38.4 percent.

CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — A key candidate in Moldova's presidential election withdrew from the race Wednesday, giving a boost to a pro-European candidate in the former Soviet republic.
Marian Lupu, who is chairman of the Democratic Party, the biggest party in the pro-European governing coalition, said he was quitting the race to throw his support behind Maia Sandu, an ex-World Bank economist who vows to fight corruption.
