NEW YORK (AP) — Another night, another late 3-pointer to win for the Charlotte Hornets.
First, it was Malik Monk heaving a 26-footer to edge Detroit.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Things haven’t always gone the way Malik Monk hoped during his first two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — At both ends of the court, the Charlotte Hornets had too much at the end for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Kemba Walker scored 23 points, Marvin Williams hit two key 3-pointers and Bismack Biyombo swatted away a pair of late shots as the Hornets beat the depleted Memphis Grizzlies 100-92 Friday night.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Nic Batum walked over to Malik Monk after Charlotte's 101-92 win over the New York Knicks on Monday night and told the reserve guard, "thank you."
"The starters have played a lot of minutes lately, especially on the road," Batum said. "... We feel like we had heavy legs."
Monk and the others on the Hornets' bench helped bail out the starters.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Even after losing two starters to injury, Charlotte coach James Borrego had reason to be encouraged.
The Hornets' 125-100 victory Monday night, their franchise-record 13th straight win over the Magic, included the kind of team play the first-year coach has been seeking.
NEW YORK (AP) — Kemba Walker had the Nets down and almost out, and they turned to a gimmick defense to force the ball out of his hands.
Somebody else on the Charlotte Hornets was going to have to make the winning play, and Malik Monk tried.
It turned into the winning play for the Nets.
Joe Harris gathered the ball near midcourt after Monk lost his dribble and drove in for the tiebreaking layup with 3.4 seconds left in the second overtime, giving Brooklyn a 134-132 victory on Wednesday night.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Hornets owner Michael Jordan said it was a "tap of endearment."
After watching a bizarre ending to Charlotte's win against Detroit on Wednesday, a bewildered Jordan lightly smacked the back of second-year guard Malik Monk's head in closing seconds of the game.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Hornets celebrated too soon and then weren't sure if they'd be celebrating at all. Meanwhile, team owner Michael Jordan chewed out one of his own players.
Jeremy Lamb's first NBA buzzer-beater was no ordinary game-winning shot.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Rookie Malik Monk had the best night of his young career and it didn't matter to him that it came against a Magic team that featured almost as many G League players as NBA regulars.
Monk scored a season-high 26 points, Frank Kaminsky added 21 and the Charlotte Hornets routed outmanned Orlando 137-100 on Friday night.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Hornets point guard Michael Carter-Williams needs surgery on his left shoulder and will miss the remainder of the season.
He suffered a posterior labral tear in his should on March 4 at Toronto.
Rookie Malik Monk has filled in as the team's backup point guard the last two games.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Malik Monk said his goal was just to bring a little energy to the Charlotte Hornets in the fourth quarter.
The rookie from Kentucky did a whole lot more than that.
Monk scored 16 of Charlotte's first 18 points in the fourth quarter to help the Hornets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 126-121 on Wednesday night for their third straight win.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Kemba Walker re-entered the game with under 8 minutes left and things changed for the Charlotte Hornets.
Walker scored nine of his 27 points in a fourth-quarter rally as the Charlotte handed the Memphis Grizzlies their first home loss of the season with a 104-99 win Monday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets have signed first-round draft pick Malik Monk, the 11th choice in the NBA draft.
Contract terms were not immediately available Monday.
Monk was the Southeastern Conference's player of the year. The star guard averaged 19.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a freshman at Kentucky.
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AP) — Malik Monk was overwhelmed at the idea of being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, a team owned by former NBA star Michael Jordan.
"Michael Jordan is the GOAT," Monk said. "... I still can't believe it. Maybe tomorrow I'll believe it."
The Hornets bolstered their offense by selecting perhaps the best shooter in the NBA draft in Monk with the 11th overall pick.
Monk said he plans to pick Jordan's brain when he gets to Charlotte.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The top shooting guards in Thursday night's NBA draft certainly offer plenty of high-scoring punch. They also come with some question marks.
Kentucky's Malik Monk is the top prospect and is expected to go in the lottery, followed by Louisville's Donovan Mitchell and Duke's Luke Kennard — all in the first round. But the position doesn't have the same projected upside compared to a stacked class of point guards or the next crop of do-everything forwards.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky freshman Bam Adebayo will hire an agent and stay in the NBA draft. He is the fifth Wildcat to leave school for the June draft.
The 6-foot-10 forward had left open the possibility of returning for his sophomore season. He had announced on April 5 he would not hire an agent, but on Tuesday said in a statement it's in his "best interest to remain in the draft."
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky guard Isaiah Briscoe says he will enter the NBA draft and hire an agent, the fourth Wildcats' player to announce their intentions this week.
Briscoe said Thursday in a statement through the school that he's "ready for the next step and can't wait to begin the next journey."
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky forward Bam Adebayo says he'll enter the NBA draft, the third Wildcats' freshman this week to announce his departure.
He says he won't hire an agent, leaving the possibility of returning to the Wildcats. The 6-foot-10 Adebayo has until May 24 to decide.
Adebayo said in a statement Wednesday that he learned and improved last season, but wants to be sure he's "making the right decision for me and my mom."
The college basketball season came to a close Monday night with North Carolina's grinding victory over Gonzaga in the desert.
Now it's time to start looking ahead to the next season and to do that, we're going to — you guessed it — take an early look at what the preseason AP Top 25 might look like.
A lot can change between now and then, but here's how it could stack up as of now:
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky guard Malik Monk will enter the NBA draft and hire an agent, the second Wildcats' freshman in as many days to announce his departure after coming within seconds of reaching the Final Four.
Projected as an NBA lottery pick, Monk said in a statement Tuesday that he talked with family before making the decision many expected. He added, "As a little kid, these are words that I could only dream of saying."
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Already prepared to lose seniors Dominique Hawkins, Derek Willis and Mychal Mulder to graduation, Kentucky awaits its annual NBA draft decisions by talented underclassmen in its latest spring roster cleaning.
The Wildcats' current group of highly regarded freshmen came within seconds of reaching the Final Four, but they will take some time before announcing future plans.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Foul trouble stymied Kentucky in the first half. A North Carolina zone caused issues in the closing minutes.
Even with those hurdles, North Carolina needed a jumper from Luke Maye with 0.3 seconds left to end the Wildcats' season, eliminating Kentucky 75-73 in the South Region final of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.
The most entertaining college basketball game of the regular season came in December.
Malik Monk set a record for a Kentucky freshman with 47 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer taken against his coach's wishes, to lift the Wildcats to a 103-100 win over North Carolina.
Are these two ready for an encore?
Of course they are — though it's a valid argument to say this rematch might be better suited for next weekend in the Final Four than Sunday in the Elite Eight.
No. 15 seed Northern Kentucky (24-10) vs. No. 2 Kentucky (29-5)
First Round, South region; Indianapolis; 9:40 p.m. ET.
BOTTOM LINE: Kentucky freshman guard Malik Monk averages 20.4 points a game. Northern Kentucky reached the tournament in its first season of eligibility after all of the lower seeds lost in the Horizon League tournament.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — John Calipari wanted a physical game for his eighth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats before the NCAA Tournament.
He got just that Sunday from Arkansas with a couple of added bonuses of both winning yet another Southeastern Conference Tournament title with his Wildcats keeping their poise under pressure aside from Malik Monk celebrating a couple of shots with throat slash gestures.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — De'Aaron Fox took charge and made plays during a critical stretch on the way to a career performance. An early-morning shootaround helped remedy Malik Monk's recent scoring woes.
Those initiatives by Kentucky's talented freshmen duo positioned the No. 8 Wildcats to claim another Southeastern Conference Tournament championship.
ATLANTA (AP) — Kentucky freshman Malik Monk was picked as both player and newcomer of the year, while Florida's Mike White claimed the coaching award on the All-Southeastern Conference men's basketball team announced Tuesday by The Associated Press.
