DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Stars reacquired defenseman Jamie Oleksiak from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday in exchange for a fourth-rank draft pick.
The deal came on the same day Stars defenseman Marc Methot underwent season-ending surgery to repair a cartilage defect in his left knee.
Many in NHL just fine with vague injury descriptions
Veteran coach Ken Hitchcock struck a nerve earlier this season when he decried the longstanding NHL practice of describing injuries in the vaguest terms possible.
An injury can be upper-body, lower-body or undisclosed, except Hitchcock and the Dallas Stars prefer to be more forthright. Defenseman Marc Methot had a knee injury, Martin Hanzal had a hamstring injury and Stephen Johns was dealing with concussion symptoms.

Stars acquire defenseman Marc Methot in a trade with Vegas
Marc Methot could go from playing with Erik Karlsson to pairing up with another young Swedish defenseman after a trade to the Dallas Stars.
Dallas acquired the 32-year-old Methot from the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday for goaltending prospect Dylan Ferguson and a 2020 second-round pick.
The teams announced the deal less than a week since the Golden Knights took Methot in the expansion draft from the Ottawa Senators.
Vegas holds all the cards with NHL expansion draft list out
Vegas Golden Knights general manager George McPhee had difficulty containing his excitement in anticipation of the NHL's expansion draft list being released.
"The most fun I've ever had in hockey," McPhee said in a video posted of him driving to the team's headquarters on Sunday.
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Mike Hoffman and his Ottawa Senators teammates heard all the chatter on social media about their style of play, which some perceived as "boring."
Their response? Well, LOL. And another big W.
Marc Methot, Derick Brassard and Zack Smith scored in a 2:18 span midway through the first period to chase goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and the Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 on Wednesday night to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference finals.
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — They have split two games scoring a combined three goals.
They have limited the Pittsburgh Penguins to two goals.
They have gone 1-1 on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champions in the Eastern Conference final.
Now all the Ottawa Senators want going into Game 3 at home on Wednesday is more:
More wins. More offense. More getting under the Penguins' skin.
The Bruins roared back from a three-goal deficit with three goals in the second period, but Riley Nash was tagged with a controversial roughing penalty in overtime and Bobby Ryan scored on the power play to give the Ottawa Senators a 4-3 victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series at the Garden.
It was, to say the least, an unusual call at the time.
Turris, Ryan score in shootout as Senators edge Penguins
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — The Ottawa Senators got a big win, but lost a player in the process.
Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan scored in the shootout as the Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 Thursday night. They appear to have lost defenseman Marc Methot for perhaps an extended period of time, though, after he took a slash from Sidney Crosby in the first period.
