PHOENIX (AP) — Right-hander Ricky Nolasco and lefty Marc Rzepczynski have agreed to minor league contracts with the Arizona Diamondbacks and will report to big league spring training.
Nolasco, 36, has not pitched in the major leagues since 2017 with the Los Angeles Angels. He was released by Kansas City in spring training last year after allowing eight runs, five hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings in one start and one relief appearance.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians have activated starting first baseman Yonder Alonso from the family medical emergency list.
Alonso returned Monday after missing a weekend series against Minnesota. Alonso is batting .248 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs in 65 games for Cleveland, which signed him as a free agent in December.
To make room for Alonso, the team optioned outfielder Greg Allen to Triple-A Columbus.
SEATTLE (AP) — Yonder Alonso was acquired by the Seattle Mariners to provide power for a playoff push. After a slow start with his new team, he delivered.
Alonso hit his first homer for Seattle and drove in three runs, and Marc Rzepczynski struck out Chris Davis with the bases loaded to end the Mariners' 7-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Leonys Martin insists he wasn't swinging for the fences.
But a good swing got the job done at the most opportune of times for the Seattle Mariners.
Martin homered in the top of the 10th inning as the Mariners rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat the Oakland Athletics 7-6 on Tuesday night. Martin hit a high arcing shot to right off a 2-1 94 mph fastball from Josh Smith (2-0) with two outs.
SEATTLE (AP) — Off to a slow start in the power department, Kyle Seager found a perfect time for his first homer of the season at Safeco Field.
Seager hit a tiebreaking shot in the eighth inning and the Seattle Mariners rallied late to beat the Texas Rangers 4-3 Sunday.
"I've hit some here before so I kind of remember it a little bit," Seager said. "But it definitely feels good to get one in a big situation and get a win off of a really good team and a good pitcher."
SEATTLE (AP) — With a new approach, Felix Hernandez is back to his old self.
Hernandez pitched 7 1/3 strong innings and Mitch Haniger settled for a tiebreaking RBI single instead of an apparent home run to lead the Seattle Mariners in a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals acquired reliever Marc Rzepczynski from Oakland on Thursday, giving the NL East leaders another lefty in the bullpen.
Oakland also sent $500,000 to be paid on Sept. 30 to the Nationals for minor league infielder Max Schrock.
The Nationals have reshaped their relief corps in the last month. They added closer Marc Melancon, traded Felipe Rivero, cut Jonathan Papelbon and put Sammy Solis on the disabled list.
