BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox infielder Marco Hernandez will be out the rest of the season after having surgery on his left shoulder.

The team says the procedure was performed Friday by Dr. Tom Holovacs in Boston.

Hernandez was put on the disabled list May 4 with a left shoulder misalignment. The 24-year-old hit .276 with two RBI in 21 games.

BOSTON (AP) — Marco Hernandez's hustle paid off in a big way for the Boston Red Sox.

Hernandez scored the go-ahead run on Pedro Strop's wild pitch in Boston's four-run eighth inning, helping the Red Sox beat the sloppy Chicago Cubs 6-2 on Sunday night.

The Red Sox took two of three in the lively weekend series that featured a strong showing for Cubs fans, chants in support of each side and the World Series trophies that ended long title droughts for the once-frustrated franchises.

Flu bug bites Red Sox again: Ramirez, Betts out of lineup

DETROIT (AP) — Hanley Ramirez and Mookie Betts are out of the Boston lineup Friday because of a flu bug that has hit the Red Sox hard in this first week of the season.

Boston also put left-hander Robbie Ross on the 10-day disabled list Thursday because of the flu. That move was retroactive to Monday.

Betts, Ross and Brock Holt all sat out Wednesday's win over Pittsburgh because of illness. Holt was in the starting lineup Friday at Detroit as the designated hitter.

Red Sox recall Selsky from minors to finalize 25-man roster

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have recalled infielder Steve Selksy from Triple-A Pawtucket and optioned infielder Marco Hernandez.

The moves, announced Saturday by Red Sox manager John Farrell, finalize the team's 25-man roster for opening day.

Selsky was optioned to Pawtucket earlier in the week, but Farrell ultimately decided he was worth bringing back.

Red Sox place OF Andrew Benintendi on DL with knee sprain

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have placed rookie left fielder Andrew Benintendi on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee sprain.

Benintendi was hurt in the seventh inning of a 4-3 loss in 11 innings to Tampa Bay on Wednesday night. He tried to avoid a tag while running toward second base, but was tagged out on a double play.
