Switzerland beats rival Austria for gold in team event
ARE, Sweden (AP) — Switzerland has now won gold in all 11 events in the history of the Alpine skiing world championships.
The Swiss completed their medal collection by narrowly beating rival Austria to win the team event Tuesday.
Ramon Zenhausern edged Marco Schwarz in the final run as the Swiss followed up their Olympic title from last year's Pyeongchang Games.
Wendy Holdener, who won the combined on Friday, gave Switzerland its first point.
Schwarz wins Alpine combined event that risks being dropped
WENGEN, Switzerland (AP) — For a skiing event that risks losing its Olympic status next month, Alpine combined put on a good show Friday.
Marco Schwarz won the men's World Cup race watched by 18,000 spectators at storied Wengen, using a solid downhill run to retain his first-leg advantage in slalom.
Schwarz was 0.42 seconds ahead of Victor Muffat-Jeandet, the 2018 Olympic bronze medalist in combined. Games silver medalist Alexis Pinturault was third, 1.12 behind the winner.
Yule wins slalom after Hirscher and Kristoffersen straddle
MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO, Italy (AP) — Swiss skier Daniel Yule claimed his first World Cup victory when first-run leaders Marcel Hirscher and Henrik Kristoffersen straddled gates in the second leg of a night slalom on Saturday.
Yule finished 0.34 seconds ahead of Marco Schwarz of Austria and 0.50 ahead of Olympic bronze medalist Michael Matt of Austria.
