Seattle goalie Miller leads LAFC list in MLS expansion draft
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Seattle goalkeeper Tyler Miller was the Los Angeles Football Club's first pick in the Major League Soccer expansion draft on Tuesday.
LAFC also chose Sporting Kansas City forward Latif Blessing, San Jose forward Marco Urena, Columbus left back Jukka Raitala and Toronto defender Raheem Edwards. The club then traded Raitala and Edwards to Montreal for Laurent Ciman, the Impact's former All-Star defender.
Earthquakes clinch playoff spot, beat Minnesota 3-2
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Marco Urena scored in the third minute of stoppage time and the San Jose Earthquakes secured a playoff spot with a 3-2 victory over Minnesota United on Sunday in their regular-season finale.
San Jose (13-14-7) needed a win for the final spot in the Western Conference after FC Dallas' 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy. It's an unexpected run for the Earthquakes, who fired coach Dominic Kinnear midway through the season.
Altidore scores twice, Toronto FC beats San Jose 4-0
TORONTO (AP) — Jozy Altidore scored twice in the second half goal and MLS-leading Toronto FC routed the San Jose Earthquakes 4-0 on Saturday.
Victor Vazquez and Canadian substitute Jonathan Osorio also scored to help Toronto (17-3-8) extend its home regular-season undefeated streak to 15 games (12-0-3) dating to October.
Qazaishvili, Earthquakes pull away for 3-0 win over Galaxy
CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Valeri Qazaishvili scored his second goal in three games and third in his MLS career and the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0 on Sunday to snap a three-game winless streak.
Los Angeles (6-14-10) is winless in its last 10 matches and has lost four in a row.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Danny Hoesen scored his second goal of the season and assisted on Marco Urena's second goal, lifting the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.
Hoesen opened the scoring in the 13th minute, off a long cross from Nick Lima. After touching the ball down, Hoesen gathered it off a defender's foot, stepped inside and unleashed a left footer into the top corner from just off the penalty spot.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Jahmir Hyka scored on a spectacular move in the 81st minute and the San Jose Earthquakes handed FC Dallas its first loss of the season, 1-0 on Saturday night.
Hyka took a pass from Marco Urena and touched the ball straight up over defender Matt Hedges as he raced by before putting the ball in off the post for his third goal.
