Florida hires former Redskins assistant Gray as CBs coach
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida has hired Torrian Gray as its cornerbacks coach, bringing him back to Gainesville to replace Charlton Warren.
Warren left the Gators to take a similar position at rival Georgia.
Gray, who has 19 years of coaching experience, worked at Florida during the 2016 season. He spent the last two years with the NFL's Washington Redskins before being fired in January.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold sat out team drills for a second straight day of practice, increasing the likelihood he'll sit out against New England on Sunday.
Darnold strained his right foot against Miami on Nov. 4 and didn't play the following week against Buffalo. Josh McCown will start in Darnold's place again if the youngster is unable to play.

Safety Marcus Maye has a broken right thumb that could sideline him for a few weeks, and leading wide receiver Quincy Enunwa has a sprained right ankle.
Maye was injured in the third quarter of New York's 42-34 win over Indianapolis on Sunday. He was seen wearing a cast on his right hand after the game.

One of Cleveland's captains, Kirksey also missed last week's game at New Orleans, the first time he sat out a game in his NFL career after playing in 65 straight. James Burgess will start for Kirksey as the Browns try to snap a 19-game winless streak.

Maye has not played in a regular-season game because of the ailment. The Jets have not specified the nature of the injury. Maye had arthroscopic ankle surgery in the offseason, but this latest injury is unrelated.
Doug Middleton has filled in for Maye in the starting lineup and ranks fourth on the team with 11 tackles.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse practiced fully for the third straight day and appears ready to play after sitting out the season opener with an abdominal injury.
Kearse was hurt during training camp and needed surgery but has made a quick recovery. He was the Jets' leading receiver last season with 65 catches. Kearse says he's feeling good, but coach Todd Bowles would not yet confirm that the receiver will play against the Dolphins on Sunday.

DETROIT (AP) — Lions running back Ameer Abdullah is inactive for Detroit's game Monday night against the New York Jets.
The Jets are without safety Marcus Maye (foot) and wide receiver Jermaine Kearse (abdomen), both of whom had been doubtful. New York linebacker Josh Martin was ruled out previously because of a concussion.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — No. 15 Florida will be without starting defensive end Jordan Sherit for the Southeastern Conference championship game against top-ranked Alabama.
Coach Jim McElwain made the announcement on a conference call Sunday, adding "we took some significant hits again."
Sherit injured his right knee in a loss at Florida State on Saturday. Nickel cornerback Duke Dawson (ankle) and left guard Martez Ivey (leg) also left the game.
Florida safety Maye out for season with broken left arm
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — No. 22 Florida will be without safety Marcus Maye for the rest of the season because of a broken left arm.
Maye injured his arm in the first quarter against South Carolina on Saturday and left the field on a cart. Coach Jim McElwain said after the 20-7 victory that Maye "will be done obviously."
