ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Victoria Azarenka set up a meeting with Australian Open finalist Petra Kvitova at the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy on Tuesday after a sometimes-shaky 6-4, 6-1 win over Russian qualifier Margarita Gasparyan.
Azarenka, herself a two-time Australian Open champion, struggled on serve at times and gave up three breaks to Gasparyan. However, the Belarusian won six straight games from 3-4 in the first set to 3-0 in the second to get the victory.
Federer wins to put Switzerland in Hopman Cup final
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Roger Federer relied on his trusted serve to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) Thursday and give defending champion Switzerland a spot in the Hopman Cup final.
The victory assured Switzerland's advancement, but Greece claimed a consolation 2-1 victory when Maria Sakkari beat Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-4 in women's singles.
Greece also won the mixed doubles 4-3 (4), 2-4, 4-3 (3) in the Fast4 format.
Serena Williams pulls US level at Hopman Cup
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Serena Williams overcame a sluggish start to power past Maria Sakkari in straight-sets at the Hopman Cup on Monday in her first competitive match since melting down in the U.S. Open final.
The 37-year-old was rusty and down an early break but did enough to record a comfortable 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory in one hour and 44 minutes in the women's singles match.

Bertens, Tomljanovic in Seoul final
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Ajla Tomljanovic has ended Hsieh Su-wei's eight-match winning streak with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over the Taiwanese player on Saturday at the Korea Open.
Hsieh won last week's Japan Women's Open at Hiroshima and the first three rounds in Seoul.
In Sunday's final, Tomljanovic will play second-seeded Kiki Bertens, who beat No. 3 Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-2 in an earlier semifinal Saturday.
Sakkari cruises to comfortable opening win at Korea Open

Muguruza, Ferrer to play for Spain at Hopman Cup

Barty KOs Ostapenko to meet Garcia in Wuhan Open final
WUHAN, China (AP) — Ashleigh Barty of Australia reached her biggest WTA final when she beat French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-0 at the Wuhan Open on Friday.
Barty will play Caroline Garcia in the final after the Frenchwoman beat qualifier Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
Ostapenko downs Muguruza in 3 sets to reach Wuhan semis
WUHAN, China (AP) — French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko beat Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the Wuhan Open quarterfinals on Thursday.
Ostapenko came from a break down in the deciding set, winning the last five games to beat Muguruza for the first time and a world No. 1 for the first time.
"I just beat No. 1 and it's amazing," Ostapenko said.
Top-ranked Muguruza advances to 3rd round at Wuhan Open
WUHAN, China (AP) — Top-ranked Garbine Muguruza advanced to the third round of the Wuhan Open by beating Lesia Tsurenko 6-4, 6-4 Tuesday.
The Wimbledon champion from Spain broke her opponent early in each set. She will next face Magda Linette of Poland.
"Two years ago I left here in the final. I always play well in China," said Muguruza, who lost to Venus Williams in the 2015 championship match. "I will try to just keep going forward."

The 254th-ranked Krejcikova upset Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 to end the Romanian's debut at the clay-court tournament, and Bertens advanced in the other semifinal on Friday when Misaki Doi became the sixth player to retire.
PRAGUE (AP) — Top-seeded Karolina Pliskova was eliminated from the Prague Open on Monday, losing to unseeded Camila Giorgi 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the first round.
It was the first victory for the 90th-ranked Italian over the world No. 3 in four matchups, and a blow to Czech chances in their home event.

Flipkens advances, Buyukakcay out at Tashkent Open
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — Second-seeded Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium saved 12 of 14 break points and beat Ana Bodgan of Romania 7-6 (7), 6-3 on Tuesday in the first round of the Tashkent Open.
Flipkens is the highest ranked player in the tournament after top-seeded Johanna Larsson withdrew with an illness before main-draw play began.
The Belgian will face Greece's Maria Sakkari in the second round.
