IndyCar lands communications company NTT as title sponsor
IndyCar announced a multi-year title sponsorship deal Tuesday with NTT, a global information technology and communications company based in Japan.
The series will be called the NTT IndyCar Series. NTT Data, a subsidiary of parent company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp., already sponsors a car for Chip Ganassi Racing and received enough exposure from that deal to warrant a larger piece of the open-wheel racing series. The season's first race is March 10 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The search for IndyCar's new title sponsor may be nearing an end — and just in time for NBC to provide more value with expanded television coverage of the series.
Mark Miles, the president and CEO of IndyCar parent Hulman & Co., said Wednesday he hopes to make a formal announcement before February's scheduled test at Austin, Texas.
IndyCar promotes Jay Frye to president in reorganization
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jay Frye, IndyCar's head of competition and operations for the past three years, has been promoted to president of the open-wheel racing series.
The move was announced Monday by Mark Miles, president and CEO of Hulman & Co., which owns IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The promotion is effective Jan. 1. Miles will remain as CEO of IndyCar.
IndyCar to debut in Austin, return to Laguna Seca in 2019
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — IndyCar will make its debut at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas and return to Laguna Seca, California, as part of its 2019 schedule.
The 17-race schedule released Tuesday drops the oval track in Phoenix and the road course in Sonoma, California. Both COTA and Laguna Seca are road courses.
NBC Sports Group and IndyCar announced this week a three-year deal starting next year that will give the Stamford-based broadcaster the rights for the first time to the racing series’ marquee event, the Indianapolis 500.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Two philanthropists and a Team USA women's basketball medalist will be among those honored this year as "Living Legends" by the Indiana Historical Society.
Tamika Catchings, a former Indiana Fever star who won Olympic gold four times, will be feted alongside philanthropic leaders John and Sarah Lechleiter. Longtime Indiana Repertory Theatre executive artistic director Janet Allen and Hulman & Company President and CEO Mark Miles will also be honored.
Vasser, KV Racing shut down IndyCar team after 14 years
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former CART champion Jimmy Vasser has shut down his IndyCar team after 14 years and seven victories, including the 2013 Indianapolis 500.
KV Racing Technology, owned by Australian businessman Kevin Kalkhoven and Vasser, announced the long-rumored move Thursday. It's possible Vasser and the team's third partner, James Sullivan, will be involved in another effort for the Indy 500 in May.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — IndyCar founder Tony George has been renamed the chairman of the board of Hulman & Co., the family that owns Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
George was forced out of that out of that job by his mother and sisters in 2009.

BOSTON (AP) — IndyCar announced Thursday it has agreed to refund $925,000 to fans who bought advance tickets to the Boston Grand Prix before it was canceled.
The motorsports series and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey said the money represents less than half the nearly $2.1 million spent by about 4,000 fans.
