After having scored just one even-strength goal heading into Monday's game, Laine recorded a hat trick and led Winnipeg to a 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Jets beat Wild 5-0 in Game 5 to advance to second round
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Minnesota Wild forward Eric Staal got right to the point.
"It couldn't have gone any worse at the start for us, and it couldn't have gone any better for them," Staal said. "They got the momentum and ran with it, especially early."
Jacob Trouba, Bryan Little, Brandon Tanev and Joel Armia scored in the first 11:59 to chase Minnesota goalie Devan Dubynk and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Wild 5-0 on Friday night to win a playoff series for the first time in franchise history.
The effort was there.
The goaltending was there.
The opportunities were there.
The star players were not.
That is what has separated the Minnesota Wild from the Winnipeg Jets during their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series. And it’s why the Wild are in a 3-1 hole — a postseason position all too familiar to them and their fans — and will be fighting for their playoff lives on Friday in Winnipeg.
Editors note: Chris Hine will write a North Score from home Wild and Wolves playoff games, focusing on three analytical points from the game and series.
Throughout the regular season, the Wild allowed a lot of shot attempts relative to the ones it took. But its calling card for success has been limiting the number of high-danger shots its opponents take from the area around the net and in the slot during 5-on-5 play. The Wild were third in a metric known as high-danger Corsi percentage.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Connor Hellebuyck bounced back in a big way, just as the Winnipeg Jets were expecting.
The 24-year-old goalie turned aside every shot Minnesota could muster, shoving the Wild to the brink of elimination.
Mark Scheifele scored both goals for Winnipeg and Hellebuyck made 30 saves for his seventh shutout this season, as the Jets beat the Wild 2-0 on Tuesday night to take a 3-1 lead in the first-round playoff series.
More adversity didnt come as a surprise.
After all, this is the 2017-18 version of the Wild a team beleaguered by bouts of injury, inconsistency and inexperience.
But after losing winger Zach Parise to a fractured sternum, it got worse for the Wild Tuesday.
The team is on the brink of elimination after the Jets secured a 2-0 win in Game 4 in front of 19,277 at Xcel Energy Center to go up 3-1 in the first-round, best-of-seven series.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Kyle Connor simply wanted to get off a shot. He ended up with much more.
The Jets rookie scored 3:16 into overtime and Winnipeg edged the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Friday night to set a single-season franchise record for points.
"I put a lot of pucks on net and shoot it, just try to get it off quick," Connor said. "That was pretty much going through my mind on that rush."
WASHINGTON (AP) — Winnipeg Jets top center Mark Scheifele remains out with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss Tuesday night's game at Nashville.
Coach Paul Maurice says he's going to be cautious with Scheifele with the playoffs a month away. Scheifele is missing his third and fourth consecutive games — Monday night at Washington and Tuesday at Nashville.
The team has not said if this is the same injury that kept him out 16 games earlier this season.
Kyle Connor scores 2 goals, Jets rout Panthers 7-2
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Kyle Connor admitted he had a chip on his shoulder after he was demoted from the Winnipeg Jets' top line.
Now that the rookie is back up with center Mark Scheifele and right winger Blake Wheeler, he wants to show that's where he belongs.
He did Sunday night.
Connor scored twice, Wheeler and defenseman Tyler Myers each had three assists and the Jets beat the Florida Panthers 7-2 to take the Central Division lead.
Wheeler, Scheifele lead Jets past Avalanche 6-1

Myers’ OT goal lifts Jets to 4-3 win over Capitals
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Tyler Myers could sense his Winnipeg Jets teammates struggling to fight after getting down by two goals to the Washington Capitals.
Then came the pushback: Bryan Little scored to make it a one-goal game midway through the third period and Mark Scheifele supplied his second of the night with 15 seconds left to send it into overtime.
Vesey scores in 3rd as Rangers beat Jets 3-1
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Henrik Lundqvist was in the right spot at the right time for most of the day.
Jimmy Vesey was in a perfect spot at a key moment for the New York Rangers.
Lundqvist made 37 saves, Vesey scored with 3:53 left in the third period, and the Rangers beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 on Sunday.
Jets get point in 5th straight game with 4-3 win over Sabres
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Bryan Little is pretty impressed by what Blake Wheeler is doing these days for the Winnipeg Jets.
Wheeler moved to center from right wing Dec. 27 when Mark Scheifele was injured. In four full games since then, the Winnipeg captain has five goals.
"It's not easy to make that transition," said Little, who centers the team's second line. "Not many people can do it and he makes it look really easy.
