MOSCOW (AP) — Johanna Konta of Britain upset seventh-seeded Belgian Elise Mertens in the first round of the Kremlin Cup on Tuesday.
Making up a 30-place rankings gap to the 14th-ranked Mertens, Konta took full advantage of Mertens' wayward serving to win 6-3, 7-5.
Thiem beats Klizan to win St. Petersburg title
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Dominic Thiem breezed past Martin Klizan 6-3, 6-1 to win the St. Petersburg Open on Sunday.
Thiem held serve throughout and wrapped up the win in just 1 hour 8 minutes to take his third title of the season.
It was the big-hitting Austrian's first final since losing the French Open final to Rafael Nadal.
Thiem to play Klizan in St. Petersburg final
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Martin Klizan's perfect record in ATP finals will be tested by top-seeded Dominic Thiem in the St. Petersburg Open decider.
Klizan is 6-0 in finals, including a win in St. Petersburg six years ago, and the Slovak is coming off a victory at the Austrian Open last month.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Top-seeded Dominic Thiem reached the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Jan-Lennard Struff on Thursday.
The Austrian player's next opponent will be eighth-seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia, who prevailed against Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 6-4.
Russian veteran Mikhail Youzhny retired from tennis after losing 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-3 to fifth-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.
Wawrinka reaches St. Petersburg Open quarterfinals
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Stan Wawrinka kept his injury comeback on track with a hard-fought win over Karen Khachanov to reach the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open on Wednesday.
Wawrinka saved two set points in each set on his way to winning 7-6 (10), 7-6 (1) over the fourth-seeded Khachanov, who at No. 24 is ranked 64 places above Wawrinka.
Wawrinka's quarterfinal opponent will be either defending champion Damir Dzumhur or Guido Pella.
Wawrinka beats Bedene at St. Petersburg Open
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Stan Wawrinka advanced to the second round of the St. Petersburg Open by beating Aljaz Bedene 7-5, 7-6 (5) Monday.
Bedene served for the first set at 5-4 but Wawrinka won the next three games to take the set. The Swiss player then saved four break points in the second.
"I'm happy with the first win. I think it was a great level," said Wawrinka, who will next face fourth-seeded Karen Khachanov.
Klizan wins 6th ATP title in 6 finals in Kitzbuehel
KITZBUEHEL, Austria (AP) — Martin Klizan of Slovakia won his sixth ATP title in six finals when he beat Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-2, 6-2 at the Generali Open on Saturday.
The second all-qualifier final on the tour since 1990 was wrapped up in 68 minutes.
"My performance was the best of the tournament," Klizan said. "There was pressure for both of us. I played a very solid game."
MUNICH (AP) — Three-time former champion Philipp Kohlschreiber reached the quarterfinals of the Munich Open with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mischa Zverev on Thursday.
Kohlschreiber next faces second seed Roberto Bautista Agut, who defeated Norwegian wildcard Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-3 at the clay-court tournament.
Third seed Diego Schwartzman lost 6-4, 6-2 to Maximilian Marterer. The German will next meet Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, who defeated Italy's Marco Cecchinato 7-6 (5), 6-1.
MUNICH (AP) — Alexander Zverev began his Munich Open title defense with a 6-7 (12), 6-4, 6-2 win over Yannick Hanfmann on Wednesday.
The top-seeded Zverev needed over two hours to prevail over the 118th-ranked Hanfmann, a wild-card entry, and set up a quarterfinal against Jan-Lennard Struff.
Struff defeated German compatriot Yannick Maden 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
2014 champ Klizan rallies to surprise Mayer in Munich
MUNICH (AP) — Former champion Martin Klizan rallied to surprise home player Florian Mayer 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the Munich Open on Monday.
The 122nd-ranked Slovak, who won the clay-court tournament in 2014, was 3-0 down in the deciding set but recovered by winning the next six games to take the match in just over two hours.
Mayer says, "I ran out of steam in the end. I can't blame myself too much."
Rafael Nadal reaches Barcelona Open semifinals
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Rafael Nadal defeated Martin Klizan 6-0, 7-5 to extend his winning streak on clay and reach the Barcelona Open semifinals on Friday.
Nadal started well but needed to save three set points to close out the match for his 17th straight victory on the surface.
The top-ranked Spaniard has won 42 consecutive sets on clay.

Goffin defeats Granollers in 2nd round of Barcelona Open
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — David Goffin saved a match point to defeat Marcel Granollers of Spain 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 Tuesday in the second round of the Barcelona Open.
Goffin was down 5-1 in the second set before recovering to reach the third round for the second consecutive year in Barcelona.

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Top-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia and defending champion Martin Klizan of Slovakia both lost in the quarterfinals of the World Tennis Tournament on Friday.
Cilic was beaten 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5) by sixth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who defeated the former U.S. Open champion for only the second time in seven meetings. Tsonga had 12 aces compared to nine for Cilic and neither dropped their serve.

Davis Cup: Australia has 2-0 lead in World Group playoff
SYDNEY (AP) — Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic had straight-set singles victories over their Slovakian opponents Friday to give Australia a 2-0 lead in their Davis Cup World Group playoff.
