Central Michigan edges Miami (OH) 84-77 behind Montgomery
OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Robert Montgomery scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Central Michigan edged Miami (Ohio) 84-77 in a Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday.
Shawn Roundtree added 15 points and seven assists for the Chippewas (12-2, 1-0) who have won six straight. David DiLeo had 11 points and five rebounds, Larry Austin Jr. had 10 points and nine rebounds and Matt Beachler had 10 points and seven rebounds.
DiLeo leads stat-full CMU past Indiana South Bend 123-76
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — David DiLeo scored 24 points with six 3-pointers, Larry Austin Jr. scored 23 and Central Michigan filled the stat sheet with a 123-76 win over NAIA-member Indiana South Bend on Sunday.
The Chippewas tied a program record with their 11th nonconference victory of the season, extended their win streak to five and remained undefeated at home (7-0).
Central Michigan makes 28 FTs, beats Southern Utah 95-86
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Larry Austin Jr. scored 20 points, Kevin McKay added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Central Michigan beat Southern Utah 95-86 on Saturday night.
Central Michigan (8-2) has won four of its last five games while Southern Utah (4-3) has lost three of four. The Chippewas avenged an 86-80 loss at Southern Utah last season that snapped a seven-game win streak.
CMU has no trouble with Chicago State in 101-60 victory
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Larry Austin had 17 points and nine assists to help Central Michigan roll to a 101-60 rout of Chicago State on Friday night.
Austin, a graduate transfer from Vanderbilt, shot 7 of 13 from the field. Matt Beachler made four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for the Chippewas (2-0). Kevin McKay had 11 points and eight rebounds. Shawn Roundtree, last season's leading scorer, made a pair of 3s and chipped in eight points in 16 minutes.
Kent State uses strong 2nd half to beat Central Michigan
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Kevin Zabo had 22 points, Jaylin Walker added 21 and Kent State overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to beat Central Michigan 84-76 on Saturday.
Zabo's 3-pointer with 1:27 left made it 74-67 and Micah Peterson extended the lead to 78-69 on a pair of free throws at 1:01. The Chippewas got within five on Matt Beachler's 3 with 38 seconds left, but the Golden Flashes (11-10, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) made 3 of 4 free throws to hold on for the victory.
Abdur-Rahkman scores 17 in Michigan’s 72-65 win over Chips
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 17 points, helping Michigan escape with a 72-65 win over Central Michigan on Monday night.
Charles Matthews and Zavier Simpson each scored 13, and Moritz Wagner added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolverines, who improved to 22-3 all-time against Central Michigan.
Shawn Roundtree had 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, to lead the Chippewas. Luke Meyer added 12 points.
