FANTASY PLAYS: Injuries mean good pricing for backup RBs
With so many season-long leagues shifting to their playoffs, lots of fantasy players are turning toward daily game — especially if they're no longer contending for the title.
And key injuries like those to running backs James Conner, Matt Breida and Melvin Gordon have created opportunities in daily fantasy without the downside seen in seasonal leagues.
Here are a few situations that will be pivotal in Week 14:
49ers RB Matt Breida out this week with ankle injury
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers will be without another key offensive piece with leading rusher Matt Breida sidelined at least a week with an injured ankle.
Breida hurt himself in warmups before Sunday's 43-16 loss at Seattle that officially eliminated the 49ers from playoff contention. Breida tried to play through the injury but eventually couldn't and left the game.
He finished the game with five carries for six yards and three catches for 51 yards.
FANTASY PLAYS: Week 11 waiver adds with 6 teams on bye
Six teams — including all of the AFC East — are off this week. But besides the Patriots, no other team has essential fantasy starters to replace.
San Francisco's break forces you to fill in for running back Matt Breida and tight end George Kittle. Cleveland's only regular fantasy starters are Nick Chubb and Jarvis Landry. Still, you must deftly navigate the waiver wire for potential playoff contributors, especially with trade deadlines about to pass in most leagues.
49ers RB Mostert, CB Moseley out for season with injuries
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley will both need season-ending surgery after getting injured against the Oakland Raiders.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Mostert broke his arm and Moseley dislocated his shoulder in the 34-3 victory Thursday night. Both players have been placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season.
Donald dominates in Rams 39-10 victory over 49ers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Aaron Donald ripped the ball out of Matt Breida's hands to set up one touchdown. He harassed C.J. Beathard with four sacks and several other hits that helped shut down San Francisco's offense.
Receivers Cobb, Allison out again for Packers vs. 49ers
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers will be without receivers Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison against the San Francisco 49ers because of hamstring injuries.
It's the second straight week that the Packers will be without Cobb and Allison. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have to rely again on rookies Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown behind top wideout Davante Adams.
49ers RB Matt Breida questionable for game vs. Packers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida is questionable for Monday night's game against the Green Bay Packers because of shoulder and ankle injuries.
Breida was limited in practice on Saturday and will be a game-time decision at Green Bay. He is sixth in the league in rushing with 369 yards.
Beathard, 49ers look to rebound against Packers at Lambeau
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — After a four-turnover performance last week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard faces quite a platform in a try for redemption.
Beathard will lead his team into Lambeau Field for Monday night's game against the Green Bay Packers, a nationally televised matchup that represents the biggest stage on which Beathard will have started an NFL game.
49ers RB Breida likely ‘doubtful’ due to ankle sprain
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The injury news could have been worse regarding Matt Breida, but it appears the San Francisco 49ers will be without their top running back for at least one game.
Breida underwent an MRI on Monday that showed a "serious sprain" to his left ankle, according to coach Kyle Shanahan. That likely will sideline Breida for next Monday night's game at Green Bay.

Panthers’ McCaffrey proving he can be an every-down back
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — If you're still thinking Christian McCaffrey is just a receiving back, it may be time to reconsider.
The Panthers' second-year running back is coming off a perception-changing game on Sunday, rushing for a career-high 184 yards on 28 carries while playing all 67 offensive snaps in a 31-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. It was an eye-opening outing for a player who'd never run for more than 66 yards in a game.

49ers have little to celebrate after 30-27 win over Lions
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Richard Sherman wasn't in a celebratory mood after his first win with the San Francisco 49ers.

49ers hang on to beat Lions 30-27
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Another miscommunication almost led to another game-altering interception for Jimmy Garoppolo.
Only this time, the San Francisco 49ers got bailed out by a flag and held on to beat the Detroit Lions.
Garoppolo threw two touchdown passes and caught a break when a defensive holding call negated a late interception as the 49ers held on to beat the Lions 30-27 on Sunday.
49ers RB Jerick McKinnon suffers season-ending knee injury
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon will miss the entire season after tearing the ACL in his right knee on the final play of practice Saturday.
McKinnon took part in his first day of team drills since injuring his right calf Aug. 9 before going down with a much more significant injury.
"He made a cut on air, no one was around him," coach Kyle Shanahan said before the MRI determined the severity of the injury. "He went down. It looked awkward."
49ers bringing in Alfred Morris to add depth in backfield
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers are bringing in Alfred Morris to provide depth at running back while they deal with injuries at the position, coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday.
Morris, 29, was a sixth-round draft pick of Washington in 2012 when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator. He rushed for 2,888 yards and 20 touchdowns during his first two seasons. The move won't become official until he passes a physical.
49ers RB Jerick McKinnon sidelined by strained calf
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon will miss at least one week with a strained right calf.
McKinnon injured himself in practice on Sunday and the team says he will be re-evaluated in a week.

49ers TE Kittle, RB Breida out for rest of preseason
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and backup running back Matt Breida both separated their shoulders in the exhibition opener and will miss the rest of the preseason.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue has been fined $30,387 by the NFL for making physical contact with a game official during a loss to San Francisco last Sunday.
Ngakoue was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after he bumped referee Jeff Triplette while shouting at 49ers running back Matt Breida as officials were trying to separate Breida and Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson.
Banged-up 49ers will place S Ward, T Gilliam on IR
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — About the only thing piling up faster than the losses for the winless San Francisco 49ers is the injuries.
Coach Kyle Shanahan opened his Monday news conference by updating the health status of nine players. The most notable of those were starting safety Jimmie Ward heading to injured reserve with a broken arm and backup right tackle Garry Gilliam going to IR with a knee injury.
Eagles move to NFL-best 7-1 with 33-10 win over 49ers

The Eagles (7-1) overcame a slow start on their way to a sixth straight win. The 49ers are 0-8 for the first time in franchise history.
