No. 25 Iowa St has milestones in reach, but K-State up first
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Its winning streak snapped and no longer in contention for a championship, No. 25 Iowa State now has to focus on something else.
That should not be a problem for coach Matt Campbell and his players because they still can go where few Iowa State teams have gone before.

Purdy throws 3 TD passes as Iowa State routs Kansas, 27-3
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is a firm believer that great teams win in the red zone.

Texas Tech's Alex Bowman was forced into a safety with 4:39 left, Hakeem Butler added a 48-yard TD catch from Brock Purdy just over two minutes later and Iowa State rallied to beat the Red Raiders 40-31 on Saturday.
Defense fuels optimism for home stretch at Iowa State

The biggest reason for the Cyclones' optimism is a defense that is playing as well as any in the Big 12.
Iowa State (3-3, 2-2 Big 12) has held each of its six opponents below their season average in points scored, a trend capped when it held then-No. 6 West Virginia to just one offensive touchdown in a 30-14 upset on Oct. 13.
Purdy good: Iowa State’s latest QB gives Cyclones options
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Thanks to Brock Purdy, Iowa State's playbook suddenly has many more options.

Iowa State is still last in the Big 12 in total offense and ninth in scoring, but there's now a feeling that if Purdy proves to be the real deal, those numbers will improve in the weeks ahead.
Purdy leads Iowa State over No. 25 Oklahoma State, 48-42
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Only guaranteed one series, third-string quarterback Brock Purdy made it count and ended up playing the rest of the game for Iowa State.

Struggling Cyclones having trouble catching a break in ’18
AMES, Iowa (AP) — After a resurgent year in which Iowa State finally broke out the Big 12 basement, the Cyclones can't seem to catch a break.
Iowa State's canceled opener put it a week behind everyone else on its schedule and it's been a climb ever since. Campbell said Montgomery's status for Saturday's game at Oklahoma State is probable and may depend on how much Montgomery can deal with the pain.
Iowa State seeking TDs, not FGs, in the red zone

Iowa State holds off Akron 26-13

Iowa State’s offensive line struggles in opener
AMES, Iowa (AP) — For all the progress Iowa State has made under coach Matt Campbell, the offensive line remains a sore spot.
Iowa State (0-1), which had its Sept. 1 opener against South Dakota State canceled because of weather, got off to a sluggish start in last weekend's 13-3 loss to Iowa. The Cyclones gained just 188 yards and never got inside Iowa's 20-yard line after their opening drive, when they had to settle for a field goal despite getting within a yard of the end zone.

WR Deshaunte Jones poised for big season at Iowa State
The play that showed just how skilled Iowa State junior Deshaunte Jones is doesn't count. Technically, it never happened.
That doesn't mean the Cyclones aren't excited about it.
Jones took a short pass from Kyle Kempt near the sidelines and wove through South Dakota State's defense for a 55-yard touchdown to put the Cyclones up 7-0 on Saturday. Moments later, the skies opened up for a series of storms so severe that Iowa State was forced to cancel the game.
Campbell, Cyclones focus on Iowa after canceled opener
Iowa State's canceled opener on Saturday was its first in 55 years.
For coach Matt Campbell, it was the second time in four seasons that his first game was called off.
Campbell's opener while coach at Toledo was wiped out because of bad weather at halftime against Stony Brook in 2015. It didn't hurt the Rockets, who upset a ranked Arkansas on the road the following week, and Campbell is hoping it won't hurt Iowa State either for Saturday's game at rival Iowa (1-0).
ISU’s Ruth suspended 1 game after traffic violation arrest
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State senior defensive back De'Monte Ruth has been suspended for Saturday's opener against South Dakota State after being arrested on Thursday night.

Ruth was listed as a starter against the Jackrabbits. He made 29 tackles and had three pass breakups in 2017.
