Khris Davis homers twice, including game-winner to lift A’s
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Khris Davis would enjoy nothing more than leading the big leagues in home runs and carrying the Oakland Athletics on a deep postseason run.
"It would be a nice achievement but first and foremost I want to get deep in the playoffs and get there," he said. "That means a lot more."
For now, he is slugging the A's one step closer to a playoff berth.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jake Odorizzi pitched six scoreless innings and Mitch Garver, Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier homered as the Minnesota Twins completed a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 10-1 victory on Sunday.
Odorizzi (4-6) turned in his third consecutive strong outing, allowing just five hits and a walk while striking out five. In his last three starts, he's allowed just two earned runs over 17 innings.
SEATTLE (AP) — After seeing long fly balls to center field die on the warning track as the night progressed, Mike Zunino knew if he got a chance at one swing to end it, he was going to do all he could to not hit it to center.
"I tried to hit smart one time," Zunino joked.
Zunino turned on a 2-2 breaking ball and lined a home run with two outs in the 12th inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night.
Jake Odorizzi’s six strong innings help Twins beat Reds, end eight-game skid
The upgraded starting rotation was expected to power the Twins engine through the long season. Despite the lack of a true ace, it was crafted to do enough to extend winning streaks while limiting losing streaks.
The latter finally happened on Saturday when righthander Jake Odorizzi said eight was enough.
