Eberle, Boychuk rally Islanders to 4-3 win over Blues
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Johnny Boychuk isn't known for his visually appealing goals, having scored just 52 times in 626 games covering 10 seasons.
However, his hard drive from just inside the blue line gave New York its first lead just 11 seconds after Jordan Eberle had tied the score, and the New York Islanders rallied for a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
Islanders rally from 2-goal deficit, beat Red Wings 3-2
DETROIT (AP) — Niklas Kronwall scored to give Detroit a two-goal lead, and later in the first period, he knocked Anders Lee off his feet with a high, hard hit.
After that, the New York Islanders began asserting themselves.
Eberle scores twice, Islanders top Penguins 6-3
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jordan Eberle scored twice in the second period to help the New York Islanders pull away from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 6-3 victory Tuesday night.
The Penguins held a ceremony before the game to honor the victims of Saturday's synagogue shooting in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Squirrel Hill. It included an 11-second moment of silence in memory of the 11 people slain.
Islanders score 4 goals in 3rd period, top Kings 7-2
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Valtteri Filppula isn't taking many shots, but the third-line center is making them count.
The New York Islanders decided to follow his lead, with Filppula scoring two goals on two shots to help his team snap a two-game road losing streak with a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
Filppula, Matt Martin, Leo Komarov and Andrew Ladd each had a goal in the third period as the Islanders set a season high in scoring.
Matt Martin is going back to the New York Islanders.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have dealt the feisty forward to the Islanders, who drafted him in 2008. The Leafs get minor-league goalie Eamon McAdam in the deal.
Also on Tuesday, the Islanders agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with goalie Robin Lehner. Lehner had a 3.01 goals-against average with a .908 save percentage in 53 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season.
Auston Matthews returns, helps Maple Leafs beat Rangers 3-2
NEW YORK (AP) — A healthy Auston Matthews clearly makes a difference as the Rangers learned in a tense late-December battle with the Maple Leafs.
Matthews led Toronto to a 3-2 victory against New York in his first game back since suffering a concussion on Dec. 9. He scored the winning goal midway through the second period and the Leafs held off a late push.
"Having one of the best players in the world back in the lineup is a pretty nice Christmas gift," veteran forward Matt Martin said.
Andersen makes 36 saves as Maple Leafs top Kings 3-2
TORONTO (AP) — Matt Martin thinks his offensive statistics might be helped by his new linemate.
Mitch Marner played on Toronto's fourth line for the third straight game and set up goals by Martin and Tyler Bozak, and the Maple Leafs handed the Los Angeles Kings their first regulation loss of the season with a 3-2 victory on Monday night.
"He's one of the elite playmakers in the league so it's a good opportunity for me and (Dominic Moore) right now to try and get some offense," Martin said.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Toronto Maple Leafs quickly rebounded from a one-sided loss.
Morgan Rielly and Matt Martin scored 15 seconds apart during Toronto's four-goal second period, Frederik Andersen made 33 saves and the Maple Leafs moved into the lead for the second Eastern Conference wild-card spot by beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-0 on Thursday night.
Matthews caps 3-goal burst, Leafs beat Sabres 4-3
TORONTO (AP) — Auston Matthews, Leo Komarov and Matt Martin each scored in a nine-minute span in the second period and the Toronto Maple Leafs rallied to beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 on Tuesday night for their 10th win in 13 games.
Toronto came back after trailing 2-0 through 20 minutes, getting its first victory this season when behind after one period (1-8-1).
It wasn't all rosy for the Leafs, though. Top defenseman Morgan Rielly left after the first period with a lower-body injury.
Couture, Sharks rally for 3-2 shootout win at Toronto
TORONTO (AP) — Logan Couture scored the only goal in a shootout, and the San Jose Sharks rallied for a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.
San Jose trailed 2-0 before Justin Braun and Joe Pavelski scored in a quick burst in the third period. Martin Jones made 29 saves in the opener of a four-game road trip.
Zach Hyman and Auston Matthews scored for Toronto, which has dropped five of six. Frederik Andersen made 40 stops.
