Holloway leads hot-shooting Massachusetts over New Hampshire
AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Rashaan Holloway scored 18 on 9-of-11 shooting and Massachusetts made 67 percent of its shots to beat New Hampshire 104-75 on Friday night.
The Minutemen (2-0) opened with a 16-4 run, led 56-29 at the break and had their largest lead at 93-57 with 4:58 left in the game.
Duquesne coach Keith Dambrot made a vow Friday morning before joining his team on its way Amherst, Mass., to play UMass.
"I'm not going to lose. I'll tell you that," he said. "I'm not going to let him beat me."

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Luwane Pipkins scored 10 of his 17 points in the opening five minutes, freshman Carl Pierre had 15 points on career-best five 3-pointers and Massachusetts cruised by Georgia 72-62 on Saturday.
It was the 10th win for UMass over an SEC opponent and the first since a 92-90 victory against LSU at home on Nov. 12, 2013.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — David Blackburn has stepped down as Chattanooga's athletic director, effective immediately.
Chattanooga announced Tuesday that Blackburn was leaving after four years to pursue other interests. Scott Altizer was selected interim athletic director while it seeks Blackburn's permanent replacement.
The Mocs won 13 Southern Conference regular-season titles and 10 conference tournaments under Blackburn.
Chattanooga hires Wisconsin assistant Lamont Paris
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Chattanooga has filled its coaching vacancy by hiring Wisconsin assistant Lamont Paris.
Paris replaces Matt McCall, who was hired by UMass on Wednesday after posting a 48-18 record in two seasons at Chattanooga. The Mocs went 19-12 this season after going 29-6 and reaching the NCAA Tournament last year.

Three Thursdays ago, UMass fired its basketball coach. Last Thursday, the Minutemen thought they had a replacement before there was a bizarre turn.
Now today, on another Thursday, UMass is set to finally move on into its new era.
After a seemingly marathon three-week ordeal, the Minutemen look to have finally found their man. The school announced yesterday that Matt McCall, who just completed his second season at Chattanooga, will be its new coach.
AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — UMass has hired Matt McCall as its next basketball coach.
The 35-year-old McCall spent the previous two seasons in Chattanooga, where he led the school to the NCAA Tournament in 2016.
The hiring is the second in two weeks for the Minutemen, after Winthrop coach Pat Kelsey backed out of an agreement to coach the program just minutes before he was set to be introduced.

The Chattanooga Mocs complete a busy stretch of three on the road over a week’s time Wednesday at VMI. They return to McKenzie Arena Saturday hosting ETSU and celebrating a very special group.
It’s the 40th anniversary of the 1977 NCAA Division II National Champions. Several members of the team, support staff and administration will be in town for the weekend and remembered at halftime of the showdown with the Bucs.

Ringgold students dedicate themselves to making the world a better place
On October 20, thousands of Ringgold students, from kindergartners to seniors, gathered at Don Patterson Field to kick off a year-long campaign to bring more good into the world. Dex and Moe of US101 Radio emceed, Ringgold Mayor Nick Millwood and UTC basketball coach Matt McCall spoke, choruses from six schools pulled together and performed as one choir, bands played, and cheerleaders led a "wave of good."
