Bears GM won’t say if Parkey will be back next season
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace wouldn't say if Cody Parkey will return for another season, and coach Matt Nagy called out the struggling kicker for appearing on the "Today" show last week.
Pace was adamant Monday that the Bears need improvement in the kicking game, calling it a "position of emphasis for us." When asked if Parkey will return for a second season, he said: "Those are things that need to play out as we go into it."
Bears’ Parkey off social media after missed field goal
CHICAGO (AP) — Kicker Cody Parkey is staying off social medial after his missed field goal at the end of the Chicago Bears' 16-15 wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Parkey told NBC's "Today" show Friday he feels "worse than anybody about missing that kick." He also says "football is what I do; it's not who I am."
Bieniemy latest Chiefs assistant on path toward top job
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Doug Pederson went through this grind a few years ago, juggling the demands of his primary job as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs with overtures from NFL teams elsewhere.
Matt Nagy went through the same process last winter.
After big jump, Bears look to KO defending champion Eagles
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Not long after he was hired, Matt Nagy watched the Super Bowl with his wife at a bar near the Chicago Bears' practice facility. His good friend Doug Pederson was coaching the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship.
The place was just about empty. He even had to ask for the game to be turned on.
Bears safety Eddie Jackson questionable for playoff game
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears will wait until right before game time for Sunday's playoff matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles to make a determination on the availability of safety Eddie Jackson.
Jackson was officially listed as questionable Friday on the final injury report after he went through a second straight limited practice. He hasn't had a full practice since before the Dec. 16 game against Green Bay when he suffered a right ankle injury.
For Nagy, playoff run with Bears comes after long rise
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — One more victory to finish the regular season was in the books and that meant the party was on at "Club Dub."
The Chicago Bears were swaying and jumping and pumping their fists as the strobe lights flashed and "Swag Surfing" by Fast Life Yungstaz blasted through the visitors' locker room at Minnesota.
The video then cut to coach Matt Nagy leading his players as they raised their right arms and thrusted them toward the ground.
Eagles OC Mike Groh has familiarity with Bears DC Vic Fangio
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Mike Groh's transition from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles has been bumpy.

NFC North champion Bears look to keep rolling in playoffs
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears are rolling into their first playoff appearance in eight years, with nine wins in 10 games and their sights set on a bigger prize after capturing the NFC North.

Pedal-down Bears keep Vikings out of playoffs with 24-10 win
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — While taking the NFC North champion Chicago Bears to the playoffs for the first time in eight years, coach Matt Nagy has displayed an energetic personality and aggressive mindset throughout his debut.
Even with their postseason position all but set, the Bears refused to let up. They kept the rival Minnesota Vikings out of the playoffs in the process.
Bears guard Kyle Long, out since Oct., likely to return
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears appear likely to get starting right guard Kyle Long back from injured reserve for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, although no final decision has yet been made.
Long has been out since Oct. 28, when he suffered a tendon injury in his right foot against the New York Jets.
Bears still see room to grow with playoffs approaching
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The NFC North champion Chicago Bears are rolling along with eight wins in nine games and their first playoff appearance in eight years approaching.
Coach Matt Nagy hopes they haven't hit their peak.
"I want us to get to a point where we literally don't peak until wherever our final game is of the year," he said Wednesday.
Bears head into finale seeking first-round playoff bye
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears head into their final regular-season game with a shot at an opening-round bye and some extra rest for their first playoff appearance in eight years.
Consider those sweet incentives for the NFC North champions.
A victory at Minnesota combined with a loss by the Los Angeles Rams to the San Francisco 49ers would give the Bears the second seed in the conference and a bye.
"You have to be realistic in some of this," Coach Matt Nagy said Monday.
Kyle Long returns from foot injury to practice with Bears
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Guard Kyle Long felt whole again Friday after returning to practice with the Chicago Bears for the first time since late October.
Following seven missed games after foot surgery, Long is hoping to come off injured reserve in time for the Bears' first playoff game in January, if not before.
"It felt good to be in a helmet and running around," Long said. "I don't feel like a ghost in the building, which is nice."
49ers get to see what they missed when they face Mack, Bears
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Back before the season started and Khalil Mack was on the trading block from Oakland, the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers were two of the teams in hottest pursuit of the star pass rusher.
The Bears won that competition and are headed to the playoffs for the first time in eight years, while the 49ers are headed to another disappointing finish thanks in part to a lack of defensive playmakers.

With division in hand, Bears going for first-round bye
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Coach Matt Nagy is saving the big celebrations for later.
He opted instead to spend "quality time" at home with his four sons, ate sushi, consumed "one beverage" and kept his eyes on the prizes still out there after the Chicago Bears clinched the NFC North.
One he would love, though it probably won't come gift-wrapped: A first-round bye.
"You wanna ask me if I want the first-round bye, or the No. 1 seed? Absolutely, give it to me right now," he said.
Bears clinch 1st playoff berth since 2010, beat Packers
CHICAGO (AP) — Mitchell Trubisky threw for two touchdowns, Eddie Jackson ended Aaron Rodgers' NFL-record streak without an interception and the Chicago Bears clinched the NFC North with a 24-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The Bears (10-4) secured their first playoff appearance since the 2010 team won the division, and clinching with a rare victory over their heated rivals made it all the more sweet.
Chicago’s Matt Nagy picked by AP writers top coach in 2018
Matt Nagy is making an impressive first impression as an NFL head coach.
Nagy has helped develop second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky into a solid NFL starter, convinced Vic Fangio to stay on as defensive coordinator, and has the Chicago Bears in position to earn their first playoff berth since 2010 in his first year on the job.
After breakthrough from Howard, Bears seek more ground gains
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Jordan Howard picked the perfect time to break through for the Chicago Bears.
The running back was at his best on a night when quarterback Mitchell Trubisky struggled, running for a season-high 101 yards to help the NFC North leaders beat the NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams 15-6 last week.
Yes, the defense dominated, stopping Jared Goff and a high-powered offense.
Bears place cornerback Callahan on IR with broken left foot
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have placed cornerback Bryce Callahan on injured reserve because of a broken left foot.
Coach Matt Nagy says Callahan will need surgery. He was hurt in Chicago's 15-6 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.
A fourth-year pro, Callahan has 45 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks and six pass breakups. Sherrick McManis figures to get the bulk of the snaps at nickel back with him out.
Bears on verge of playoffs after ‘D’ dominates against Rams
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears were in trouble, leading by nine with the Rams in prime position following a big interception return by Joe Johnson III on an overthrown ball by Mitchell Trubisky.
On the next play, with Los Angeles at the 27, Kyle Fuller picked off a wobbly pass by Jared Goff. In a flash, the threat was over and the Bears could breathe a little easier.
That sequence late in the third quarter pretty much summed up the game.
Goldman, dominant defense leads Bears over Rams 15-6
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bears harassed Jared Goff and squashed the Los Angeles Rams' high-powered offense while shuffling their way to a surprising victory over the team that came in with the NFL's best record.
In a season of huge strides, this might be their biggest one yet.
Eddie Goldman led a dominant effort by the defense and the NFC North-leading Bears beat the NFC West champion Rams 15-6 on Sunday night.
"Our play on defense — all I can say is wow," coach Matt Nagy said.
Bears remove Trubisky from injury report, ensuring start
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears removed quarterback Mitchell Trubisky from their injury list Friday, clearing the way for a start Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams.
"Well, he put together three really good days in practice," coach Matt Nagy said. "I thought the velocity on his throws was good, his decision making just getting in and out of the huddle, that part was easy.
Dominant much of the year, the Bears’ defense displays flaws
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — There are signs the Chicago Bears' defense is leaking, and it couldn't come at a worse time.
Whether it was stopping the run in the second half or giving up big plays in the passing game, the defense wasn't as dominant as in other games during Sunday's 30-27 loss in overtime to the New York Giants.
Coach Matt Nagy thinks of it as an anomaly, but it's an issue the Bears must fix fast with the powerful Los Angeles Rams coming to Chicago on Sunday night.
Bears coach Matt Nagy not overly concerned with run game
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — It's unusual to see Chicago unable to run the football. Then again, it's not exactly common to see the Bears with an 8-3 record, either.
Without being overly consumed by the thought, coach Matt Nagy expressed a desire Friday to get the dormant running game moving better than in Thursday's 23-16 victory over the Detroit Lions or in other recent victories.
Trubisky doubtful for Bears’ Thanksgiving matchup with Lions
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears will meet for the second time in 12 days — yet this matchup already looks a lot different.
Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago's starting quarterback, is doubtful for Thursday's rematch with the Lions because of a right shoulder injury.
That means Chase Daniel, who has barely played in the NFL since 2014, may take the field for the NFC North-leading Bears under the Thanksgiving spotlight.
Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky listed as doubtful vs Lions
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was listed as doubtful Wednesday for the Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit against the Lions.
Trubisky suffered a right shoulder injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 25-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
If he can't play, the Bears will turn to backup Chase Daniel, who has not started or played extensively in an NFL game since 2014.
Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky day to day with shoulder injury
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chase Daniel promises to be ready to step in at quarterback for Mitchell Trubisky on Thursday when the Chicago Bears play the Detroit Lions.
The Bears' backup might need to clear away some rust.
Daniel hasn't started or played extensively in an NFL game since 2014, and might start for Trubisky because of a right shoulder injury sustained in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 25-20 Bears victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
For Bears, handling success is unfamiliar territory
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — With a tighter grip on the NFC North, the Chicago Bears are in unfamiliar territory and facing a different kind of challenge as the season heads toward its final stretch.
Learning to handle success.
"We have to make sure that we just continue to keep those blinders on, keep the earmuffs on, don't listen to anything and just keep playing our football," coach Matt Nagy said.
Bears say quarterback Trubisky has right shoulder injury
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears say quarterback Mitchell Trubisky hurt his right shoulder in their victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Coach Matt Nagy did not mention the injury after the game or when he met with reporters on Monday. But the Bears later said Trubisky would not have participated had they practiced. They were required by NFL rules to release a hypothetical injury report because they play Thursday at Detroit.
Bears back K Parkey, expect him to rebound from rough outing
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears continue to back kicker Cody Parkey and expect him to put aside a rough outing.
Coach Matt Nagy says Parkey is confident and "able to rebound." Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor agreed Thursday, saying he knows "what's under the hood with this kid."
The NFC North-leading Bears host Minnesota in a first-place showdown on Sunday night. Last week, Parkey hit uprights each time while missing two extra points and two field goals in a win over Detroit.
Bears supporting Parkey after tough day against Lions
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — This time, the Chicago Bears were good enough to overcome a tough day for Cody Parkey.
Mack, Allen Robinson just about ready to return to Bears
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Two-time All-Pro pass rusher Khalil Mack and top receiver Allen Robinson look as if they're just about ready to return after missing the Chicago Bears' past two games because of injuries.
Both players practiced without limitations Thursday for the second consecutive day.
The NFC North-leading Bears hope to have them back in the lineup against the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field on Sunday.
Mitchell Trubisky, Bears’ offense maintaining focus
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears' offense refuse to become mired in mistakes or popular assessments.
Trubisky long ago ditched social media to focus his attention on operating coach Matt Nagy's new offense, and the result has been a 5-3 record and first place in the NFC North at the midpoint.
Trubisky excelling under Nagy as Bears set to play Bills
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bears coach Matt Nagy need not worry about any R-rated remarks that might have been picked up by the microphone he wore in a win over the New York Jets last week.
"Is it good or bad?" asked Nagy, who had forgotten he was miked up in the first place for a 4 1/2-minute segment posted on the team's website this week.
"Good? I hope so," he said. "I know there could be some bad stuff on there."
Bears may place Kyle Long on injured reserve
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears right guard Kyle Long has a tendon injury in his right foot, and the team is deciding whether to put him on injured reserve.
Coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday the three-time Pro Bowl lineman has a boot on his foot and is "week to week." The Bears are still trying to figure out the "complete extent" of the injury.
Asked if Long has any broken bones, Nagy said, "I'm not going to get into the details of it." But he added there are "some issues" with a tendon.
Bears awaiting word on Kyle Long after right foot injury
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears are in wait-and-see mode with Kyle Long.
Coach Matt Nagy said Monday that Long remains in the evaluation process and he hopes to know more in the next day or two after the offensive lineman left Chicago's 24-10 victory over the New York Jets with a right foot injury.
A half-dozen NFL coaches worthy of praise this season
Some fans are shaking their heads in wonderment at the performances of some first-year head coaches who keep on losing. Others are campaigning to get rid of an incumbent.
Yet there's an impressive number of men doing terrific jobs who deserve to be praised as we approach the halfway mark of the NFL schedule.
Bears searching for answers after problem areas surface
Losing consecutive games for the first time exposed several flaws with the Chicago Bears.
Although coach Matt Nagy sees no easy fix after a 38-31 loss to the New England Patriots, he believes solutions are within reach for problems with Mitchell Trubisky's passing, a fading pass rush, and a feeble running attack.
Bears’ Khalil Mack practices but questionable for Patriots
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Bears linebacker Khalil Mack must wait until just before game time to learn if he gets a chance to rush New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at Soldier Field.
Mack played through an ankle injury in Chicago's last game, a 31-28 loss to Miami. On Friday, he practiced for the first time this week, although on a limited basis. Bears coach Matt Nagy says he thought Mack "moved around pretty good."
