STOCKHOLM (AP) — American Tennys Sandgren upset fifth-seeded Lucas Pouille of France 6-4, 6-4 Tuesday to reach the second round of the Stockholm Open.
Sandgren hit 14 aces and won 90 percent of points on his first serve, breaking once in each set to wrap up the win in 1 hour, 16 minutes.
No. 8 Fernando Verdasco of Spain and Ernests Gulbis of Latvia also advanced. Verdasco beat Matthew Ebden of Australia 6-4, 6-2, while Gulbis ousted Swedish wild-card entry Mikael Ymer 6-4, 6-3.
TOKYO (AP) — Second-seeded Kevin Anderson advanced to the second round of the Japan Open by beating Matthew Ebden 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 on Wednesday.
Anderson hit 22 aces and saved five of six break points. He will next face Frances Tiafore.
Also, third-seeded Kei Nishikori advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Benoit Paire. Nishikori will face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Alex de Minaur in the next round.
ATLANTA (AP) — Top-seeded John Isner advanced to the BB&T Atlanta Open final for the eighth time, beating fourth-seeded Matthew Ebden of Australia 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-1 on Saturday.
Seeking his fifth victory at Atlantic Station in the last six years, Isner will face eighth-seeded Ryan Harrison in a rematch of Isner's victory in the final last year. Harrison beat Cameron Norrie of Britain 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the night match.
ATLANTA (AP) — John Isner advanced to the BB&T Atlanta Open semifinals for the ninth straight year, beating Germany's Mischa Zverev 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 on Friday.
"He is a tough player. I played well today. I needed to," Isner said. "It was a weird match. The balls were bouncing everywhere, it was tough to control. I was happy to get through in three sets."
ATLANTA (AP) — Marcos Baghdatis beat fifth-seeded Frances Tiafoe 7-5, 6-1 on Thursday in the BB&T Atlanta Open to set up a quarterfinal match against fourth-seeded Matthew Ebden.
The 33-year-old Baghdatis, from Cyprus, has won two straight matches at Atlantic Station after losing seven of his previous eight.
"It's been a tough year," Baghdatis said. "But what happened, happened. Now I'm here and I'm in the quarterfinals. I'm happy."
HALLE, Germany (AP) — Defending champion Roger Federer defeated Matthew Ebden 7-6 (2), 7-5 to reach the semifinals of the grass-court Gerry Weber Open on Friday.
Federer was made to work hard by Ebden, who saved five of the eight break points he faced and was leading 5-3 in the second set.

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Peter Gojowczyk upset defending champion Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (5), 6-7 (1), 7-6 (4) on Thursday to reach Hall of Fame Tennis Championships semifinals.
Gojowczyk, a 28-year-old German, overcame 30 aces from the second-seeded Croatian. Gojowczyk was 3 for 3 on break points.
"In the end, it didn't go my way," Karlovic said. "That's life, that's tennis. That's how it goes sometimes."
NEWPORT, Rhode Island (AP) — Sam Groth saved a match point before beating American qualifier Austin Krajicek 6-7 (3), 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Tuesday and setting up what should be a big-serving duel against top-seeded John Isner, a two-time champion at the Hall of Fame tournament.
Groth had 23 aces and 13 double faults in his tournament opener, while Isner had a bye into the second round.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Nikoloz Basilashvili beat top-seeded Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Thursday to advance to the Memphis Open quarterfinals.
Basilashvili, ranked 67th in the world, never lost his serve and allowed the 20th-ranked Karlovic just one break-point opportunity.
Basilashvili will face Matthew Ebden, a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 winner over 2016 Memphis Open runner-up Taylor Fritz in the late match.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Taylor Fritz saved three match points in a third-set tiebreaker to beat No. 8 seed Yen-Hsun Lu 4-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7) on Tuesday night in the first round of the Memphis Open.
Fritz, the runner-up in this event last year, won without ever breaking Lu's serve.
Earlier Tuesday, qualifier Darian King defeated No. 5 seed Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-4. King, ranked 140th in the world, dropped just 12 points in 10 service games against the 32nd-ranked Tomic.
