Vandy steps up its defense in win over Middle Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Bryce Drew didn't like Vanderbilt's defensive effort four days ago.
But the Commodores coach was much happier after his team's 79-51 win over Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders hit only 36 percent from the floor.
"Our players worked really hard on defense the last couple of days," Drew said. "We wanted to come out and defend much better. I thought it was our best effort and execution on the defensive end."

Syracuse could lose a star, but future looking bright

Syracuse outlasts stubborn Buffalo 81-74
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse won the game but don't tell Buffalo the Orange are better.
"It's frustrating," said Bulls coach Nate Oats. "They (Buffalo players) think they're as good as them. They really do, and I tend to agree with them. Those three players on Syracuse (Tyus Battle, Oshae Brissett and Frank Howard) are really good. After that, we've got some really good players at the front end, too, but we're deeper and our bench is better."
Syracuse survives without Tyus Battle to defeat Toledo 72-64
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — If adversity builds character, then the Syracuse Orange should have a pretty good vibe heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.
Playing without its top scorer for most of the second half and its two centers who fouled out, Syracuse (5-0) outlasted Toledo (3-1) 72-64 on Wednesday night - thanks to tenacious defense and clutch performances by Frank Howard and Oshae Brissett who took over when Tyus Battle left with a back injury.
