Amius scores 27 as Western Carolina tops Chattanooga 75-63
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Mike Amius tossed in a career-high 27 points, added eight rebounds and snatched a career-best four steals to lead Western Carolina to a 75-63 victory over Chattanooga on Thursday night.
Amius knocked down 12 of 16 shots (75 percent) from the floor, but the rest of the Catamounts (6-8, 2-0 Southern Conference) connected on just 16 of 46 attempts (35 percent). Deriece Parks added 10 points.
Dolphins backup QB Moore ruled out against Broncos
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins reserve quarterback Matt Moore has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Denver because of a foot injury.
Starter Jay Cutler's backup will be David Fales, who has thrown five passes in his NFL career. Cutler has gone the distance in only two of the past six games because of injuries, and Moore started in last week's loss at New England.
Ravens place 3 receivers on inactive list vs Dolphins
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens have placed wide receivers Mike Wallace, Michael Campanaro and Chris Matthews on the inactive list for their game against the Miami Dolphins.
Wallace has not recovered from the concussion he received Sunday in Minnesota. Campanaro has a shoulder injury and Matthews has a thigh issue.
Baltimore's other inactives for Thursday night: running back Terrance West, linebacker Tim Williams, tight end Maxx Williams and defensive end Bronson Kaufusi.
Safety McDonald signs $24 million extension with Dolphins
MIAMI (AP) — Suspended safety T.J. McDonald signed a $24 million, four-year extension through 2021 with the Miami Dolphins, who also decided Saturday to keep five undrafted rookies — at least for now.
Graduate transfers ready to make impact for their new teams
Oregon's Vernon Adams showed last year the difference a graduate transfer can make for his new team.
Adams, a Championship Subdivision star at Eastern Washington, transferred to Oregon for his final year of eligibility and played exceptionally when he wasn't dealing with injuries. Adams threw for 2,643 yards and 26 touchdowns with only six interceptions to lead all Bowl Subdivision performers in passing efficiency.
Defensive back Maurice Smith joins Georgia team in scrimmage
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Defensive back Maurice Smith has started his acclimation to Georgia a day after the Southeastern Conference cleared his transfer from Alabama as a graduate student.
Smith was assigned a No. 2 jersey and was with the Bulldogs for Saturday's scrimmage at Sanford Stadium. Coach Kirby Smart, the former Alabama defensive coordinator, said Smith's new teammates were "receptive and excited to have him."
SEC clears path for Smith’s transfer from Alabama to Georgia
ATLANTA (AP) — The Southeastern Conference on Friday cleared the path for former Alabama defensive back Maurice Smith to transfer as a graduate student to Georgia.
The SEC granted two exceptions to conference bylaws as requested by Georgia on behalf of Smith. Smith won't have to sit out a year and will be eligible in the 2016 season. He also was given an exception to the SEC rule which says transfers have at least two years of eligibility remaining.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama has cleared the way for defensive back Maurice Smith to transfer within the Southeastern Conference, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.
Speaking on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the school hasn't disclosed the information, the person said Alabama has granted Smith's release. The Tuscaloosa News first reported the decision.
